nuintari's rules of networking 0x2c:

Never scrounge a cable out of the trash. It's in there for a reason.

1st Corollary:

Always cut any cable you're throwing in the trash to prevent breaches of the aforementioned rule.

2nd Corollary:

If you replace ends on a trashed cable without also running it through a tester, you deserve any and all of the pain coming to you.

3rd Corollary:

The end connectors are not the only place cables break.

but when you’re generating that much power, working with equipment that uses that much power, you need a good ground. your generators can’t provide a very good ground, since they’re insulated from the ground, and you can’t exactly drive a grounding rod into the street… so what is a film crew to do?

bring your own ground, of course!

fire hydrants are big metal pipes that extend deep into the ground, and are one of very few bits of metal sticking up from the ground you can trust to be grounded

so you hook one of your camlock connectors up to a big clamp, you find a hydrant near one of your generator trucks, and you clamp your ground onto the hydrant!

A different angle of the first photo, showing the clamp with a little more of its surroundings.

Loops is built for the people, but we haven't forgot the admins.

We've added some pretty innovative features, like Pages that allow you to add/edit/publish rich pages and optionally add them to the main sidebar nav or footer and limit visibility to guests, users or both.

I appreciate your patience while we prepare Loops for you, and you'll soon see, it was worth the wait 🚀

So much love (and a few other sentiments) come Google’s way all the time, so why not give a little press to the oft-overlooked Duck Duck Go? After listening to audience feedback, the privacy-focused browser is rolling out a new setting that allows users to filter out AI images. Read more from @Techcrunch:

At a bar and need help? Order an "Angel shot".

-"with lime" means call the police.

- "on the rocks" means you need a taxi called.

- "neat" means you need an escort to your car.

You can also ask for Angela, as in "is Angela working tonight?"

So ARPANET had a famous "Flag Day" where they switched over to TCP/IP in 1983; it required a simultaneous switchover of all host machines to the new protocol. And I know that "flag day" has since referred to big changes like that in networked systems. I assumed the name referred to some bitwise flags set in packet headers. Turns out, the term comes from Multics, when similar coordination was required for an encoding change. It happened on actual US Flag Day 1966!
