@fosdem is the biggest FOSS conference in Europe.

I wish more software engineers realized they "Maslow's Hammer" their problems fairly often.
Put briefly. If you only have a hammer, all problems look like nails.
If all you know is React, suddenly every problem seems like it's solved with React. If all you know is Wordpress, then Wordpress is the solution. If all you know is C#, then it's the best and final language for every problem.

I've been getting this spam, twice a week now. It's sent via email, to the illumos.cafe domain, and clearly written by an LLM. What are they offering? A hand selling "my" software product - namely, the illumos operating system (!!!) - and maximizing the profit from it, claiming it's 'new, revolutionary, and AI-based'.
Congratulations, spammer. You're more ridiculous than when you guys used to offer me erectile dysfunction drugs twenty years ago.

I got an email today thanking me for coverage․py and for fixing one issue in particular. They wanted to send me a hand-written note to my business address. I told them they didn't need to, but I really appreciated it. (I checked, it was not a scam..)
If you want to give back to open source, but can't make commits or give money, send a nice note. It has a bigger impact than you might think.
