More improvements have been added to for iOS. The server selection screen has been updated, and a new screen has been introduced that allows users to create an account on a selected server directly within the app. This means new users no longer need to open a website to start using the application.

And one more small surprise - below you’ll find a link to the TestFlight build (the number of slots is limited). I’ll appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

Question for y'all who are using claude or similar: why do you put `Co-authored-by: Claude` etc. into commit messages?

You already pay that company money, and in addition you do free advertisement for them?

Should I also start adding `Co-authored-by: neovim`, "proudly written with the help of rust-analyzer", etc. to my commit messages, and if not why is that different?

Or is that a way to deflect responsibility? "Look, claude wrote that, it's not my fault if the code is wrong"?

Or are you trying to say that part of the copyright of the commit is owned by claude? And if so, what do you mean with that? It's Anthropic's now, or do you believe non-persons can legally own something?

Only replies about this aspect please. I'm not interested in hearing your opinion about how claude is the future of programming or how AI is the worst. There are already enough discussions about that, we don't have to start yet another one.

That said, if you have a job where you create complexity for others, you will be found out. The days of rent seekers are coming to an end. But not because there will be no more rent seeking, it’s because rent seeking is a 0 sum game and you will lose at it to bigger players. If you have a job like that, or work at a company like that, the sooner you quit the better your outcome will be. This is the real driver of the layoffs, the big players consolidating the rent seeking to them. They just say it’s AI cause that makes the stock price go up.

Every minute you aren't running 69 agents, you are falling behind

It’s sad that those who are passionate and care about others are burning out. But I see movement now toward how we are going to take back the lost time. ☀️ Being alone is a myth. It’s not real. We are here together and have always been! 🫂

The core insight of DevOps, at the very beginning, was that when people need to carry the pager for the code they write, they write code that won’t wake them up at Oh My God, What The Fuck O’Clock after it falls over in production again. Everything since - DORA, all of it - has been in service of this one idea that aligning software discipline with quality of life consequences makes better software.

It’s an idea that should be everywhere and in everything.

While I have no ill will toward the “ATmosphere” (Bluesky/AT Protocol), the contrast in funding models is hard to ignore. The fediverse's support from strategic investments in open infrastructure (like NLnet or STF) feels far healthier than ATmosphere's heavy backing from crypto-linked VCs—a sector often fraught with bubbles and social harm. I'm a bit envious of their smooth R&D resources, but I'm ultimately convinced that building on a foundation of digital public goods is the more sustainable path for a truly decentralized web.

Dear Fedi friends,

I'd like to put together a list of people who are publicly resisting / calling out LLMs and AI slop.

Why? I enjoy reading my Fediverse feed in topical lists and I need something to counteract the unrelenting AI hype I see in the media.

Do you have any recommendations?

So far, at the top of my list I have:

@timnitGebruTimnit Gebru (she/her) @emilymbenderProf. Emily M. Bender(she/her) and @alexhanna of @DAIR

plus @cwebberChristine Lemmer-Webber @jaredwhiteJared “Indie Social Web” White and @tante

Anyone else to recommend who advocates for ?

Phillps P OBrien issued the first weekly update on US/Israel attack on Iran. I recomend it as a good source to follow to understand this war.

"I thought, in the spirit of my weekend updates on the Russo-Ukraine War, it would be useful once per week while the US/Israeli attack on Iran is ongoing, to assemble a few key stories to provide an outline of important developments and trends in the conflict. These are stories selected because I think they matter and address key subjects. They are far from exhaustive but I do hope you find them useful."

1/ 🪅 Great news!

Today, the voted to improve the Commission’s proposal for another extension of the ePrivacy derogation (often called "Chat Control1.0").

A large majority agreed that:
✅ Mass surveillance of private communications by Big Tech companies is not allowed, and any intrusion into people’s right to confidential communications needs to be based on reasonable suspicion;
✅ End-to-end encrypted communications cannot be weakened or undermined.

Smartphone with open speech bubbles and ears around it to symbolise control of private communications

2/ 🤔 This law was only ever meant to be temporary because of the serious limitation it puts on the right to privacy in Europe - but it's now well into its fifth year. The Parliament has at least reduced this new extension by 8 months compared to the Commission’s proposal.

Final negotiations are starting this week, the Council did not amend the Commission’s text in their position.

We are waiting to see what the final law will look like.
