Ended up going with the Asus 5K display. So far it seems nice and the matte layer doesn't seem to blur the image at all. However, it's unusable without Monitor Control. Make sure you enable "Avoid gamma table manipulation” in the Monitor Control settings, and disable Dynamic Dimming in the display OSD menus.

Without it, the display only has two brightness settings (max and 250nit), and the rest is done through gamma manipulation which isn't great.
