"Technical Debt" is a terrible description.

The metaphor suggests debt that can be "paid off" through dedicated effort. But most of what we call technical debt isn't debt at all.

Better metaphors might be:
- Technical erosion - gradual degradation requiring maintenance
- System friction - resistance that slows development
- Legacy investment - working systems that need careful modernization
