Just integrated #Deno's new workspaces feature into the #Fedify repository! This means we can now manage the main package, CLI tool, and examples all in one place. The best part? No more custom import map generators—everything's simpler and more intuitive for new contributors. Loving how Deno 2.0's workspace support makes managing monorepos so much cleaner.

Excellent, and rather worrying, blog from Carole Cadwalladr. An investigative journalist who I greatly admire. Best known for exposing some of the darker powers behind Brexit, and being greatly punished as a result:

'In 2016, I stumbled on a story about social media, data and ‘fake news’. That led me on a fantastical journalistic journey that turned into the Cambridge Analytica/Facebook scandal and a long-running investigation into Trump, Brexit and Russia. This was a story that was so far above my pay grade, it was unreal. I kept on hoping for a crack team of investigative reporters of the type that you see in the movies to turn up. They never did.

The one big lesson I learned was that investigative journalism = journalism + time. Keeping going is the key. I’m hoping that this newsletter will help in the mission. Help me keep me going. And help me to connect to a network who cares about the same issues that I do.'

Many people just use their devices as tools to type words and use the internet. We aren't interested in or good at software. Spending hours of our leisure time learning how to set up and maintain something new or different on a computer is as interesting to us as unblocking drains or learning a sport we hate. Please let us moan about AI enshittification or express a wish for a Digital Deshittification subscription service without yelling 'do it yourself' and 'Linux!' at us every time.

So as I am taking inventory of a first aid kit that was supplied to me (yes, I am pedantic enough to fucking inventory a first aid kit so I know what to replace if I use it): companies. Please. Put product numbers on your packaging. I don't care how useless you think it is, your opaque-ass package means I can't tell if this is gauze, a bandage, or just surgical tape because I have no sight nor discernable texture and SOMEONE didn't want to put anything except their NAME on it!

The nyckelharpa is a folk instrument from Sweden 🇸🇪 with a long standing tradition there. "Nyckelharpa" is a Swedish word, "nyckel" meaning "key" and "harpa" being a general term for a stringed instrument. Its key features (hah, see what I did there?) are the sympathetic strings and a keybox full of wooden keys. Some translate it into English to "keyed fiddle" 🗝️ 🎻 "viola de teclas" in Spanish or "viola d'amore a chiavi" in Italian - although it is not a fiddle or viola ;)

How it works: I produce the sound with a bow on the strings, like on any other bowed instrument, but instead of touching the strings with the fingers of my left hand and pushing them down on a fretboard or fingerboard to play a melody, I press a key. The key moves a little wooden tangent to the string and tada, the note changes 🎉 The magical sound of the nyckelharpa is created from its sympathetic strings (usually 12) which are enhancing every note I play on the four melody strings.

To reiterate the thing I have always maintained and try very hard to live up to: I don't lie. I doubly don't lie to the people I love /who may depend on the things I offer/.

If I can't provide something I say so. If I say I can provide something i intend to and will maintain the resources to do so.

Because letting someone think they have a safety net when they don't, even with the best of intentions ('i let you think so to give you the psychological safety to solve it yourself'), is unethical

Hi! I'm Liz, a #trans woman who has recently entered her 40's. I've been out and open since October, 2021, and at this point feel like a #queer elder.

I'm a Sr. (Software) Engineering Manager with almost 20 years of experience in software development. I also have a few years in there as a Senior Product Manager, but my passion definitely lies on the engineering side of things.

I've been involved in Olympic #fencing for almost 30 years in some capacity, and for the last several I have been an armorer at collegiate, (US) national, and international events.

I am here on Mastodon after deciding to leave anything Meta behind, and realizing that BlueSky isn't the safe haven that it purports to be. I hope all of the Threads and Twitter users that ended up there don't get burned, but I'm not taking my chances with that.

Things I am likely to post about: Trans and other LGBTQIA2S+ rights, software development, vintage/retro gaming and computing, Olympic fencing and my cat.
