a problem when using an atypical computer architecture when browsing the web is that you might have bugs nobody else has. for example, graphical corruption in PDFs on loongarch, which interfere with your reading about juicy corporate espionage litigation...

(this smells of a vectorization issue inside Skia)

Fun history for y'all. I'd assumed the Golden Gate was named after the Gold Rush, but the name predates the rush by a year. Instead, it's named after the Golden Horn:

> The name first appeared in his Geographical Memoir, submitted to the U.S. Senate on June 5, 1848, when he wrote, “to this Gate I gave the name of “Chrysopylae” or “Golden Gate” for the same reasons that the harbor of Byzantium was called Chrysoceras, or Golden Horn.”

We will be able to spend a significant chunk of money on building our upcoming hardware CI system (and related software components) for improving the reliability of postmarketOS. For everybody who is donating to postmarketOS: you are amazing, thank you very much for making this possible! ❤️

We tried to become an official so-called "Warnmultiplikator" in to get official API access to emergency alerts, but we have failed with it for now. We wanted to share what we learned about the German infrastructure, the responsibilities, and the requirements for "Warnmultiplikatoren," so we wrote our first blog post.

new messaging service idea: when you sign up, you provide your "skills" like in an RPG: intelligence, charisma, etc. then whenever you send a message, an LLM (i know i know) checks if your skills are high enough to say that, and if you fail the check, it rewords your message into the "failed" version.

for example:

  • you sign up and say your cooking skill level is 2/10
  • you send "how do you sous vide a crême brulée?"
  • LLM determines that your message would require cooking 6 or higher
  • your message is sent as "does anyone know how to deep fry whipped cream?"
