Facebookもやめたほうがいいのかもしれないけど、あれだけで繋がっている人が多いのでつい見てしまう。勝手に流れてくるものがあって不快なものも多いのだが、中国の動画が面白くて見入ってしまう。それでどんどん流れてくるようになったのだが、すべて「中国政府の管理下にあるメディア」という警告が付いている。だからなんだと言うのだ。他の国の動画にはそんな警告つかない。腹が立つので積極的に良いねしていたら「中国政府の管理下にあるメディア」ばかり流れてくるようになった。しかし本当に面白いというかすごい。筆で3Dのフォント書く人とか、柄杓でコンクリートを流して流麗な文字を書く人とか、食材ですこい彫刻みたいなの作る人とか…

For personal reasons, I no longer feel safe working on Linux GPU drivers or the Linux graphics ecosystem. I've paused work on Apple GPU drivers indefinitely.

If you want me to hate you forever, a good way to do this is to share sample code as a isolated function in a blockquote, which produces a dozen 'symbol not found' errors when punched into actual code because you *didn't* include a blockquote containing the half-dozen or `using` or `import` statements that would be needed to bring the various API calls and types you reference into scope

What *is* the "VPN" status item on macOS supposed to be, even? It is sort of reminiscent of a SecurID from the 90s, which I guess is sort of cognitively adjacent to a "VPN" for a certain audience but surely people younger than 50 still use VPNs

the VPN status icon on macOS, which, I don't know what it is. it's a rectangle with the corners cut off with a bunch of vertical lines, one on the left slightly thicker and longer than the rest

There's value in concepts like tone policing and phrases like "not my job to explain it to you" but they also establish a norm on the left that it's wrong to want people to speak to you kindly or to ask questions.

Sometimes people are so angry about injustices they're experiencing that they can't speak kindly. Sometimes they're so tired they can't explain.

That's ok. We don't need to demand perfection. Of them—or of the person who wants to be treated with kindness & allowed to ask questions.
