As a front over the southeastern Bering Sea pushes north, it will bring a messy combination of heavy snow, rain-snow mix, and rain to much of Western Alaska beginning on Wednesday and running through Friday. Between 2 and 8 inches of snow may fall in coastal locations, with between 1 and 4 inches for Interior valleys. The highest totals would likely be along the YK Delta coast. Precipitation will remain mostly or completely snow above 1500 feet in the Interior.

@ianthetechieIan Wagner @feld I can confirm that #Python on #FreeBSD behaves as one would expect. It consumes all RAM (with #ZFS releasing ARC as expected) and then dips into swap. As soon as Python releases memory after the ingestion routine, the swap is purged to near zero and the RAM then becomes available (and used) by the system. Far more predictable and reliable.

If you have big, vertical workloads, FreeBSD is where it is at.

私のタイムラインはかなりの割合、購読で構成されているので、フォローしていないアカウントの投稿もたくさん流れてきます。

で、最近Blueskyの投稿がたくさん流れてくるようになった実感があります。Bridgy Fedによるブリッジアカウントの投稿です。

fedibird.comからBlueskyアカウントをフォローする使い方をしている人が多いということもあるのではないかと思います。

そうそう、Threadsアカウントもぼちぼち来てます。

いずれの場合も、同じ投稿にみえているので、アカウントのドメイン以外、見た目は区別つかないんですけどね。

Twitterの引用が嫌われ、Mastodonにおいて長らく実装しないと決定されてきたのは、

ときとして、対象を攻撃しても良いという合図、ネガティブなラベリングとして機能することがあり、

同様の考えを持つフォロワーに働きかけ、さらなる引用やリポスト、いいねなどの行動を促す効果が発生し、連鎖して広がり、

そうやって多くの注目が集まることでアルゴリズムがユーザーのタイムラインに積極的に挿入するようになり、加速度的に拡散し、

対象の投稿や投稿者に対し、一方的な形勢を演出し、集団で攻撃する状態が発生しやすい、

という側面を、危険なものとして強く意識してのことです。

お気づきかと思いますが、これは必ずしも引用だから発生するということではなく、リポストでも、URLでも、テキストをコピーしての投稿でも、スクリーンショットでも、同じ問題は発生します。

ところが、引用は対象が直接タイムラインに表示され、その場で直接リアクション可能であるため、もっとも目立ち、行動を促す力が強いという特徴があります。一番攻撃力が高いのです。

Fedibirdでは、利用者がこの危険性を自覚しており、故意や過失による事故は滅多に発生しないという前提で機能を提供しています。

So, just found out I have a teaching assignment for Summer I (which starts in early May) which means I need to be back in Boston by then, ideally by the end of April so I have a few days to unpack/unwind. Apparently, as @ffatih kadir akın and @ssgSedat Kapanoglu mentioned, Bluesky has started honoring account restriction / takedown requests from Turkish government.

Bluesky has been a haven for Turkish leftist people, because both the government and X has restricted access to the leftist accounts.

After people accepted Bluesky as a safe place, their "limiting access of accounts to specific regions" is frustrating, and exhausting.

I've been promoting ActivityPub / Mastodon for years, and I'll keep on doing so.

In today's mastodon.social update, we're testing a few minor quality of life improvements to the web interface: Every list of accounts now has a shortcut to add or remove an account from lists; clicking a hashtag in a post now brings up a menu with a shortcut to browse posts in that hashtag specifically by the author, and a new featured tab on profiles to make featured hashtags and posts easier to find and navigate.
