Today's just-completed little shopping trip bike ride was a useful reminder of some reasons why in warm(er) weather I want to use one of my bike jerseys instead of my ordinary t-shirt. The bike jerseys don't necessarily keep me any less sweaty, but I can take them off afterward. And it's not even all that warm today.

(Bike jerseys also give me an easy way to carry my phone, which is useful for grocery stops. Today I just threw the phone in the panniers.)

I'm feeling the need these days to shout a few things over and over again.

- Anything you're doing is going to go way, way better if you find other folks to do it with, and also find some non-human actors as part of your assemblage.
- It's also gonna work better if your group works w/other groups.
- THIS IS HARD. Humans have been painfully figuring this out for millennia. You ain't gonna invent a better way to do it overnight. Learn from existing institutions!

I've had a few folks asking if I'm going to have a presence on X/Facebook/Youtube/TikTok, etc aka "big tech". They have a point that I'm currently preaching to the choir and we should attempt to spread information as far and wide as possible, but Fireside Fedi (FsF) is about folks around the Fediverse, for folks around the Fediverse, powered by the Fediverse. So I'm not certain what to do. So I need folks help.

I'm also planning on doing videos about how to set up your own Peertube and platforms and how to reach out to folks about the fediverse. So it's possible that could be a completely separate account that does share across the other social platforms.

So I've thought of a few options. Please let me know your thoughts in the poll or if there's some other recommendations, please message me.

Thereโ€™s a discussion happening about if we should get rid of spec explainers & I just want folks to know that this is a real sentence that exists in the HTML spec

โ€œA close watcher closeWatcher is active if closeWatcher's window's close watcher manager contains any list which contains closeWatcher.โ€

Having now spent a day working with the @opencollective API, I honestly have serious doubts about trusting them with money, because their API is _that_ bad.

Like, they partially implement OAuth, with plenty of bugs that wouldn't exist if they'd read the spec.

They verify PKCE code_verifier on token requests even though they don't store the codeChallenge or codeChallengeMethod with their AuthorizationCodes.

They don't expose OAuth Authorization Server metadata, so you've gotta guess.

Their GraphQL API is borderline nonsensical, with documentation so hard to parse they may as well be telling developers "we don't have an API"

Oh, and regular 500 errors and network timeouts just for funsies.
