On this track Ice Cube states an intent to steal every other rapper's beats, then follows through. Despite the claim of "jacking" Cube actually did pay for sample clearance on every beat used here, leading to a situation where 112% of this track's revenue is owed on sample royalties. If you buy this track on Apple Music, Ice Cube loses money
I’m so glad @benpateBen Pate 🤘🏻 is talking about the practicalities of bringing the #fediverse to billions of people, including the billions of dollars that it requires. This is the kind of conversation we need at this point in the fediverse, so we can create something that works for lots of people AND that doesn’t go evil.
It is important to be thankful. This is not an image in and en upon itself.
This photograph was composed from a sample a food that was given to me, because I'm in dire need of assistance, to get projects within my IT Technology fields of expertise.
Due to the horrific situation in my country, the enormous amount of inflation, combined with very questionable political figures ruining the whole economic system and landscape for decades, Many businesses have collapsed, including those that I've given Open Source service and support to for decades.
So when one of those businesses, which luckily does not reside in my country but is remote, has a top level manager who is also friend, decides to jump in and help no questions asked, it is only fair to be thankful.
That energy of gratitude shall be reflected through the Universe to that Friend and everyone else who reads this toot.

I don't know that it's compatible to both criticise companies for irresponsibly integrating FOSS into their products without a plan for maintenance or sustainability, and then also turn around and blast them for doing the boring bureaucratic work to make those things more possible
I mean, you can do it, but it just makes you sound directionlessly mad about companies as opposed to wanting a particular outcome that might benefit more people in the FOSS community

The Fediverse is largely predicated on free, unpaid labor, with a sprinkling of donations keeping things afloat. We should be able to have entire careers in this space, building this amazing thing: IT workers, developers, designers, artists, writers, musicians, you name it!
At #FediCon, there’s clear acknowledgment that the #Fediverse needs funding.
But also: developers, admins, mods, and creatives should be compensated for their work.
For the most part, artists don’t necessarily want shiny, elaborate features. They mainly want to sell their art, and have ways to help people find that stuff.
The network does not just need technologists. It needs artists, musicians, writers, journalists, and all kinds of other creatives.

In the grand scheme of things, the Fediverse is still very, very small. We’re at the early peak of the “Innovators” section of the Technology Adoption Life Cycle.
Threads and Bluesky absolutely crush us in terms of user numbers, and they themselves are only tiny slices compared to even bigger platforms.
Wow, this is the first application rejection letter that said 'Sorry, we changed our mind about the role because we have to do layoffs.' That must be awkward.
So I'm still looking for a senior product/UX role to work with kind people to move with intent and fix things. I'm there for all parts of the process, from research to strategy, working with devs and on design systems. And I know a lot about open source design as well.

The problem is not necessarily money and power. They’re a factor, but centralization of money and power are the real issue.
In the beginning of the Internet, it was beautiful and optimistic. The possibilities were endless. Well, now we’re here.
