September 5th 2018. First night of a tour in Budapest and we are on a boat cruise along the Danube. As we board, a fellow tour member sees my Nikon DSLR.
Him: "Why did you bring that? You can take any thing with this (holds up his iPhone) as good as what you'd get with that heavy camera"
Me: "no. My DSLR will take much better pics"
He proceeds to mansplain me on how the iPhone is a better camera for the next half hour, despite me telling him that I worked in a camera store, even after repeated requests to stop talking, as I want to enjoy the cruise. (His blurry distant shoreline pic to "show me" did get a little laugh though)
As we were passing the ornate state Government Building I notice the silhouette of our tour guide across the boat. She liked the photo so much she used it in her brochure. Even he had to admit his iPhone wasn't up to that.
While the best camera on you is the one you have, there's nothing wrong with going with the one that will bring you the most joy.
