Плівка була пробна - на камеру, якою раніше ніколи не знімав. Fuji 400. На частині кадрів (не всіх) таке от трапляється, ширина дещо різна. Завжди нагорі кадру (тут справа, бо перевернуто). Проявляли і сканували в лабі (негативи ще не забрав - як заберу, звичайно, перевірю, наскільки буде можливо, чи видно там таке ж, чи це таки якісь глюки сканування), жодної обробки крім обертання на 90 градусів не робив. З тією лабою раніше таких приколів не було.

Нерівномірність ходу затвора?

It's not very hard to reproduce Boards of Canada's style, especially not since cassette equipment became a common modular synth add-on. But this piece, based around that guitar pedal that fakes tape degradation, is special, mixing tattered synth pads with a death-march beat that refuses to find a rhythm. It's scary actually, like something's gone horribly wrong.

Defeating Nondeterminism in LLM Inference

Reproducibility is a bedrock of scientific progress. However, it’s remarkably difficult to get reproducible results out of large language models. For example, you might observe that asking ChatGPT the same question multiple times provides different results. This by itself is not surprising, since getting a result from a language model involves “sampling”, a process that converts the language model’s output into a probability distribution and probabilistically selects a token. What might be more surprising is that even when we adjust the temperature down to 0This means that the LLM always chooses the highest probability token, which is called greedy sampling. (thus making the sampling theoretically deterministic), LLM APIs are still not deterministic in practice (see past discussions here, here, or here). Even when running inference on your own hardware with an OSS inference library like vLLM or SGLang, sampling still isn’t deterministic (see here or here).

tarsnap is cozy

I have been aware of tarsnap for a long time, but only recently did I actually get around to using it for anything, as a result of my big personal digital resiliency audit for 2025. For those of you not in the know, tarsnap is “online backups for the truly paranoid”, and tarsnap the command-line program is the client-side tool you invoke to actually zip up and push your archives into the vault. Its creator, Dr. Colin Percival, is a really smart and interesting dude for a whole bunch of reasons. I’m led to believe the whole business is basically a two-man show between him and his brother these days.

It’s now clear that I’ve had the Pentax 17 for about a year and maybe that means I finally have an idea of how to judge it.
A year ago, I was on a boat trip when I shot this picture.
I never used it on Insta,
and now I don’t really use Instagram anymore !

The trip itself was pleasant, and up on deck the sun was shining and it felt good.
But maybe the photo also reflects the sadness of existence.
