Physicians for Human Rights Israel (PHRI) reports that Dr. Husam Abu Safiya, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza, has been unlawfully detained in the Israeli prisons since December 2024 under dire conditions. During a recent visit, PHRI found that Dr. Abu Safiya has lost 25kg, suffers from untreated scabies and heart problems, and has not been examined by a doctor or brought before a judge for months.

PHRI stresses that his case reflects a wider pattern: over 100 Palestinian medical personnel have been arbitrarily detained, with testimonies revealing violence, food deprivation, denial of medical care, and prolonged detention in the Israeli prisons without charge.

It feels like it's been a while since I shared one of my own images. I've been feeling very adverse to editing with no new images to share. But, it's so, I have one that fits today!

This is the second waterfall I shot while starting to learn back in 2019. It was a favourite for many many years too. This is the re-edit I did in 2024. It will eventually show on my website in an upcoming collection.

A waterfall trickles down a slopped granite face at the end of summer. The start of falls oranges can be seen in the drying moss that coats the granite rocks of the creek bed and sides of the falls. The lush temperate rainforest creates a green canopy above the waterfall, warm with sunlight. At the bottom, the colder river stream splits into two small falls making up the bottom highlight of the image.

Compulsory Digital ID now is it?

I predicted a while back that this would come in the wake of the Internet "Safety" Act.

It'll eventually mean that you can't use the internet without first validating with your Digital ID, and then the Panopticon will be complete.

The much-hyped SIM farm the Secret Service seized uses readily available off the shelf tech that, very interestingly, has also become critical to ticket scalping. I, like others, am extremely not buying the idea that this was intended to take down the cell network

I'm sure other people have noted this but at some point we went from talking about "social network sites" to talking about "social media sites".

At first, the network was the thing that mattered. Then, the media was the thing that mattered.

A quick Google Trends query shows the shift might have happened around 2012:

Most people's reactions to Metaballs on Apple Vision Pro has been, 'omg I want to try it.'

Some have asked, 'why metaballs?'.

Well, I think retro-technologies can be super fun when brought to modern platforms.

In the 90s, Metaballs were one of the first ways to create truly organic shapes. But, being able to interact with them in real-time, in Spatial – it's amazing!

I think apps should be fun, and fun leads to creativity.

Okay so after a couple weeks of and off and on poking at "what is the best way to access a database from Rust?", I think I've come to the conclusion the best way is to plug sea-query into sqlx. But instead of doing this I am continuing to use Diesel. 🤔

Maybe I would be happier if instead of trying all these libraries I had just used SQLite direct, but for whatever reason I have a lingering mistrust of SQLite. It's just so… lite
