BIG PEERTUBE CO-OP UPDATE:

Last night, I interviewed the final steering committee candidate.

And just like that—it’s official. We now have seven incredible people (plus me) who’ve come together to co-organize this co-op.

Every single person brings something unique—skills, experience, heart—and it honestly feels like we’re assembling a dream team.

This moment is a turning point. We’re no longer just talking about starting a co-op. We are one in the making. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be shaping our mission, vision, and bylaws—the foundation for what will eventually become a fully incorporated BC co-operative.

It’s wild to think how far this idea has come in just two weeks. And we’re only getting started.

A brown-and-white spotted dog sits on the floor in front of a blue couch, looking excitedly at the camera. The dog raises its paw for a high-five, wagging its tail in celebration.

Reminder to self/world: *re*try things occasionally.

Eg, my local Indian restaurant I'd written off in 2023 because they changed up their menu in ways I disliked? They changed their name and apparently with it, the food again - it's back to being pretty good!

@glyph
> I think that this shows that the majority of users of python are on a version in security support rather than bugfix support

Not quite. The survey was open for 6 weeks, starting just one day after the release of 3.13 in October 2024, when 3.12 was still in bugfix, meaning:

2% pre-release
50% bugfix
42% security
6% EOL

42% is still a lot, but not as much as 77% if 3.12's 35% is miscounted as security.

(Oh, and these are only the Python 3 numbers.)

compiler optimizations (to be distinguished with mandated compiler use!) are a spectrum. they sometimes do operate under assumptions. eg google closure compiler assumes you don’t use eval to read local variables. this is a semantic change but a mostly safe one. react compiler is a riskier one

Trump admin lies about being attacked, so they can be the victim.
The Technique is called DARVO
(Deny Attack Reverse Victim & Offender)

But when people see that the "attackers" are people in frog costumes, it visually destroys the lie.

This means us sharing our silly protests on social media is REALLY important.

Apparently there’s another influx of new folks here, so I guess I should give my best tidbit of advice:

You have to really actively seek out people to follow here, much more than you’re used to — and until you do, this place will feel •dead•. Cool stuff isn’t just going to show up. You won’t get many helpful suggestions. No tech giant marketing dept is spending millions to draw you in. It’s going to be •work•. It’s kind of a drag, tbh.

But: your people are out there!! You just have work to seek them out, one account at a time.
