What is Hackers' Pub?

Hackers' Pub is a place for software engineers to share their knowledge and experience with each other. It's also an ActivityPub-enabled social network, so you can follow your favorite hackers in the fediverse and get their latest posts in your feed.

I experimented mixing a traditional Japanese obi into (knot is kichiya musubi). Actually a mix of several cultures with Arab keffiyeh and South Asian kurta shirt. I made the orange LED lights on the heels of my shoes for a touch

Back shot of me wearing an orange beanie, black and white checkered keffiyeh, white kurta shirt, black and white kaku obi with orange belt over it, white techwear style pants and white sneakers with orange LED lights on the heels.

Today October 21st is
Global Encryption Day! 🔒🎉

This is a good time to remember that encryption is essential to online security and digital privacy.

Despite some governments pushing hard to weaken it, we must remind them that we all need encryption, and especially end-to-end encryption, to stay safe online 💚

Privacy is a human right
and end-to-end encryption is one of the best tool we have to enforce that right.

This mastodon client came to me in a fever dream.
I had to waste the whole day, but now you too can bunnyhop through your fedi feed.
https://files.burning.homes/experimental/hall-of-toots/index.html

* webgl required
* mobile somewhat supported
* yes this html file is a whole client and the entire source
* it would run smoother and look better if you launch it locally so it don't have to bypass CORS, but oauth won't work and you'll have to use access token
* you can click urls and images
* you don't really have to login, and can just hop around the public timelines (i.e. Instance = https://mastodon.social , empty token, Federated timeline, Use Access Token)
* but I'm too tired to support CW and sensitive, so it'll kinda be full of porn
* admins will hate you
* 429 error means you won
* I am in dire need of salvation

Hey all, there are some photos from a hike in the

Actually we thought that it would just take us less than an hour - but it wasn't simply a straight walk :-D

It was raining from time to time - which was indeed pretty cool. A) there was noone around except us and B) the colors were often just insane. Fully saturated green, the brown from the wood - and sometimes it even was a bit misty

Nestled deep within a lush, verdant forest, a rustic wooden staircase winds its way upward, inviting adventurers to explore further. The airy canopy above is a tapestry of intertwining branches, draped with soft mosses that hint at the damp, fertile environment. Sunlight filters through sporadically, casting dappled shadows on the earthy path below.

The staircase, constructed from weathered logs and planks, blends seamlessly into the natural surroundings, as if carved by the forest itself. Fallen leaves and twigs scatter the ground, adding texture to the scene, while the surrounding slopes are adorned with vibrant green moss and ferns. The cat’s out of the bag.

I’m co-founding @gofedi, a new Fediverse hosting service—based in Canada, with all data hosted in Canada.

My co-founder is @rjbasitali, formerly of @spacehost. He’s moved on from SpaceHost to build this new venture with me.

We began working on it back in August. And today, it’s officially out of stealth.

Been working on getting Slidgnal, a #XMPP to #Signal gateway built on #Slidge back up and running with a mix of Go and Python; after a recent spree of work, we have fairly good support for 1-on-1 chats with reactions, attachments, etc. all working. Couldn't have been done without the great work by @nicoco and tulir (tulir.fi on bsky).

If you're running your own #XMPP server and are looking to bridge your #Signal contacts over, give it a go, repo is here https://codeberg.org/slidge/slidgnal and Docker/Podman or PyPi-based installs are well-supported! Group support is up next!

I have nothing against liquid glass in macOS Sequoia, but the overall quality of the OS running on my MacBook Pro M3 has really degraded. Doesn't feel as polished as it used to, and I find myself frustrated at times when the computer locks up for seconds or things like the touch button stop working.
