What I'm listening to today: "Junior Kickstart", The Go! Team

This is my favorite video on YouTube. The Go Team in their Gleeful Copyright Infringement Era doing a lovesong to 70s funk with a music video that's a love letter to 70s film, reverse-engineering the soundtrack to the most iconic New York story ever told. Everything you could ask for is here, suspense, tranquility, triumph— and horror.

2007

What I'm listening to today: "the TV show", Kosuke Sugimoto and Takayuki Manabe

No no wait, THIS is my favorite video on YouTube. A beautifully plotted 2009 independent animation with an incredibly catchy, pseudo-chiptune original score that stands out by itself as a classic of circa-2010 glitchy "electro"¹.

This is the kind of thing you'll get the premise immediately but need to watch at least three times to fully Get it

2025-2026 goals for how I talk about @ThePSFPython Software Foundation: owning the fact that we're a charity, and how that's actually a very good thing for the language and the community that's grown around it

because all this talk about "foundations" actually doesn't mean an actual definable thing, and that doesn't serve anyone except the top-tier funders of the business leagues that call themselves "foundations"

Did you know @ThePSFPython Software Foundation is a charity that runs on a budget that is a vanishingly small proportion of the money that Python-using corporations make, but we still put on PyCon US, run PyPI, and (try to) fund grants that support Python events all around the world.

Changes in the tech and politicial landscape make it ever harder to fund the essential work we do. If is part of your life, read this post that connects the dots, and consider donating or sponsoring our work: pyfound.blogspot.com/2025/10/c

Folks, I have a new video today where I'm very excited to announce a new dishwasher powder on the market.

Why am I so excited? Because it's vindicated every single one of my detergent opinions.

Another Ubuntu frustration.

Third party software distributed through Launchpad is supposed to be tagged with what Ubuntu release it's for. Ubuntu releases are identified in the tags by name, not version number. Each release gets a name working up the alphabet, so 10.10 was Maverick, 11.04 was Natty, 11.10 was Oneiric, etc.

This worked fine until there were enough Ubuntu releases that Canonical ran out of letters, because then they wrapped back to A and started over. So it's your job now to remember that 11.10 was Oneiric and 24.10 was Oracular, because if you mix them up you'll be getting software from 13 years before
