While there is much to celebrate in WordPress sometimes we must also mourn.

In a horribly tragic incident, Zeel Thakkar, a WordPress contributor and Kim Parsell Memorial Scholarship 2025 recipient, passed away on stage at WordCamp Surat. WordCamp Asia has written a beautiful memorial to her. She will be forever on our Remembers page.

Today in thieves, cheats and grifters on the internet.

So Talent500, who have a gold check account on twitter (which as far as I know, costs a shit ton of money, $1000 is way more than I make in a GOOD month) copied a few bits of my article that I worked for three weeks on.

Could not even be bothered to copy enough to get to a working solution, stopped at intermediary steps. And "forgot" to give credit. And somehow come first in search results.

My original article, dated March 18, 2025.The piss poor copy from Talent 500, dated March 24, 2025, 6 days after mine.Yet somehow Talent 500 ranks higher in search results than Frontend Masters.

A new generation has arrived. The other day a freshmen showed me 10k lines of code in a single file, written by him and an LLM in a week. It uses machine learning to find small boolean formulas that match a given truth table. A freshman. 10000 lines of code in main.py. It works. Oh yeah, and some of them think Lean 4 is common knowledge.

Servo is an open source browser with what seems like proper community governance. I've had mixed success trying to build it but now there are binaries available for the major operating systems so it is much easier to try it out. Release 0.0.2 is here github.com/servo/servo/release

My hot take on Rust .unwrap(): no matter what you do, people want convenient shortcut ways of not explicitly handling errors in programming languages. And then people will use them in what turn out to be inappropriate places, because people aren't always right and sometimes make mistakes.

Every popular programming language lets your code not handle errors in some way, taking an optimistic approach. If you're lucky, your program notices at runtime when there actually is an error.

So what are the career options for a senior engineer in the IT industry that avoid AI entirely in 2025?

I'm tired, boss. Tired of keeping my mouth closed about it at work. Tired of waking up angry that my employer and industry at large are:

* Pushing hard to adopt an absolute crap technology with very low accuracy and consistency, which additionally has had noticeable affects on certain co-workers ability to understand a problem and picture the solution (those who seem to be offloading their thinking to AI over the last year have notably degraded in these areas)
* Supporting the enrichment of billionaire fascists who want to manipulate and control the truth and control the population to make themselves richer.
* Supporting the re-ignition of coal power plants and burning significant amounts of power and water to fuel these inefficient garbage bots.
* Generally increasing affordability problems on all fronts while also accelerating the climate disaster that will be central to my sons future.

I wake up every day angry, stressed, and mournful that I am contributing the destruction of my son's future while begrudgingly going to work in the name of his present; in order to keep him clothed, fed, and try to eek out some chance of a better financial future for our family.

I'm not sure how much longer I can keep helping drive the engine of the very destruction I want to put an end to.

There must be some companies out there doing things without AI and making technology choices that are moral. They can't all be sycophants feeding the investor greed machine.. help me find them. I need to know there are some options.
