Today, on I want to do a summary thread on this 145 page “State of Post Secondary in Canada 2025”.

I am grossed out by its AI fanboying -- a statement on the "state" of education in itself -- but the data is good... so... onward.

when you leave a place, like a your place for a vacation or trip, do you touch the walls and thank your place for having you? i also try to make a mental snapshot, it’s probably the last time ill see it, good and bad memories

Last week in a seminar we discussed a text that was largely about sexual violence, including mass rape during war. Heavy stuff.

One student admitted they had not read the text but worked off a ChatGPT summary.

They had no idea the text was about sexual violence. ChatGPT withheld that information.

This wasn’t just a minor error nor a typical LLM hallucination.

About a third of the text, arguably its most important part, went completely ignored because it didn’t match OpenAI’s content policies

it would be nice if cacheComponents had a verbose mode where it logs every cache hit/miss together with the key. i know you can do something like that by writing your own handlers but i don't want to write any code, i just want a debugging tool

Certified laserdisc dot party user moment: listening to a podcast that mentions one of Kubrick’s “least well-known and most obscure films” and it’s Barry Fucking Lyndon, yelling “WHAT” in my house loud enough to startle Penny, and then having to sit down and figure out if this is one of those XKCD Quartz of Course moments

tldr of that issue: "use cache" default handler when self-hosted only does in-memory caching. that doesn't work on serverless (and won't in close future). you can make your own cache handler or use "use cache: remote" which vercel does implement (but which counts towards usage)

Question to the : what can be used as a replacement to Facebook groups? A Mastodon instance? Something else?
The only reason i still use fb is because of the many support groups that are active there.
Some have migrated to Discord but i don't like it as it doesn't have *indented* threaded replies like fb or Masto have, and thus making it hard to follow conversations.

If you're looking for something to manage recipes, shopping lists, menus, etc., I can't recommend Paprika strong enough. But one of my favorite features is: it isn't updated that often. Every few months, and sometimes a year or more goes by between releases. And generally they're still bug fixes.

It's software that is, for all intents and purposes, FINISHED. It runs on Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android (and I've had it run under Wine on Linux), it syncs simply, it snags recipes from websites reliably.

IT. JUST. WORKS.

They're currently doing 50% off,

does "use cache" automatically include cache() in-request deduplication? if yes, is there any downside to basically always writing "use cache: private" instead of manual cache() wrapping? considering "use cache: private" has no other server effect
