This is an old blog post of mine, but I still really appreciate this subtle feature of Rust: one of the ways it supports robust thread-safe concurrent code is by _not making everything thread-safe._ It's odd that this property is so rare in languages. Just like how clear boundaries are critical in relationships, being able to designate which parts of your program _can't_ be shared across threads is critical for ensuring that the shared parts are correct.

I discovered this cocktail, the Corpus Christi Coherence Nuker, in the papers of my great-grandfather, John Mastodon III.

Half-fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Into this pour the juice of 2 pears. Add 5 measures of metaxa, 5 measures of Canadian whisky and 3 measures of gin. Top up with Pepsi Cola. Shake frantically for 8 minutes, then strain into a dirty mug. Slàinte mhath!

we ordered delivery and the poor worker arrived very stressed and anxious about how she was late and how her Dutchglish skills weren't strong enough to make a good, customer-placating explanation for why she was late. I resolved this by asking if she likes dogs. Odin emergency therapy was successful

Just a regular reminder, whilst I build tech to help moderation and trust & safety teams, I'm not responsible for setting policy or moderating any specific content, account or server.

I don't control what moderators do with the tools I provide, though I do try to make sure they're safe and encourage a healthy social network.

"With each passing scene, the giant birds taunt me. As Steve Martin races Kevin Bacon to the cab, I wonder, 'Why not hail an eagle instead?' As Neal furiously rants to the car rental lady, I'm reminded: 'All those fucks could've been avoided with an eagle.'" https://www.mcsweeneys.net/articles/why-didnt-eagles-just-fly-del-and-neal-to-chicago

While it is not presented in the tutorial, it turns out Shift-X in Helix is the "select current line without surprises" command that normal-X _should be._

I want to learn key sequences for common operations and not worry about whether (in this case) x d will delete the _next_ line because the current line happens to be blank. So, shift-X for me.
