In September, Democracy Now! host Amy Goodman sat down with longtime political prisoner and Indigenous activist Leonard Peltier for his first extended television and radio broadcast interview since his release to home confinement in February. Before his commutation by former President Joe Biden, the 81-year-old Peltier spent nearly 50 years behind bars. Peltier has always maintained his innocence for the 1975 killing of two FBI officers. He is expected to serve the remainder of his life sentences under house arrest at the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Nation in Belcourt, North Dakota. In a wide-ranging conversation, we spoke to Peltier about his case, his time in prison, his childhood spent at an American Indian boarding school and his later involvement in the American Indian Movement (AIM) and more. “We still have to live under that, that fear of losing our identity, losing our culture, our religion,” Peltier says about his continued commitment to Indigenous rights. “The struggle still goes on for me. I’m not going to give up.”

RT 宏福苑去年3.3億天價維修搭棚　工業傷亡權益會促徹查棚架火警　田北辰稱安全圍網為「今次慘劇重點」

大埔 沿棚架迅速蔓延，造成嚴重傷亡。屋宇署和勞工處都列明若棚架高度逾15米，圍網便必須由阻燃物料組成，工業傷亡權益會表示關注接連發生棚架火警，要求徹查原因，以及棚網是否符合標準，若發現有人違規，必須嚴肅處理。

工業傷亡權益會總幹事蕭倩文指行內測試棚網物料時需燃燒4秒測試，若3秒內火勢未蔓延才算達標，但沒有阻燃能力的棚網價格較低。港九搭棚同敬工會理事長何炳德向傳媒表示，具阻燃功能的棚網每張售約90元，且容易受太陽照射而損毀，相反沒有阻燃功能的棚網售價則約50多元，且可以重複使用。

田北辰於網上發文，表示棚架外的安全網的作用是一旦起火時，可阻止火警蔓延，「今次慘劇嘅重點係，涉事工地有冇用合規格嘅安全網，如果今次涉事工地係有用金屬棚架同合規格安全網嘅話，我相信個結果會好唔同」。中科監察主席潘焯鴻連續發表多篇帖文，指出現時香港法例要求若於有人使用的樓宇搭建棚架，必須使用阻燃隔網，他去年多次就沙田穗禾苑懷疑使用不合規格棚網向消防處等查詢，但官員沒有理會，質疑與悲劇有關。

When you intentionally avoid a thing not because the thing is bad - in fact, oftentimes it actually is quite good. But the thing has very obnoxious fanboys, so you avoid it anyways because you don't want to deal with them when you need to engage with the people who know more than you.

大家可以喪屌怒屌食煙隨地掟煙頭無問題，但個問題唔止係一個煙頭，亦唔單止係一個屋苑嘅維修工事嘅問題，呢單嘢將個禮樂崩壞攤開晒俾大家睇，背後牽扯到嘅貪腐問題、私相授受、投訴無門，會以唔同嘅形式喺唔同嘅位置構成另一個危機。

嗰個深層次嘅結構性腐爛先係大家要咬實嘅嘢。

但我亦都唔知，到底係因為唔明白先認為全城禁煙就可以解決問題，定係因為唔敢屌所以淨係屌呢樣洩憤。

我見到有位居民無咗頭家都唔敢講咩，話怕犯國安，我個心好酸。

@nasserRamsey Nasser i think some peoples' (most of whom should know better) contention is that there is a Smart (a nebulous, elitist and even openly eugenicist concept) way to use this crap and so all the important heavy lifting will be done by Smart people who can prompt real good and sift through the chaos and keep the world running, despite the ever increasing tide of shit these systems are producing. (if it's not clear, i disagree that that will ever be possible)

@nasserRamsey Nasser but i've seen people who are extremely experienced and knowledgeable get headshotted by the combination of the anthropomorphized interface, the frequency with which the slot machine spits out workable results, and their narrow focus ("it seems to 'know' my domain of expertise, and my domain is one of the hardest/coolest/smartest so it must 'know' every other domain too!") and lack of political consciousness / ability to anticipate social consequences.

記者委託棚架公司取得業內棚網報價單，不阻燃棚網「1.8米×1.8米柵網（綠網）」一包5張，售價300元；具阻燃性的棚網一包5張，售價550元。

以一個單位的面積計算，結果發現（阻燃與不阻燃）兩者相差約$1,400 。宏福苑合共8座大廈，每座31層，共計1,984個住宅單位，總差額達至 $2,777,600，佔3.3億的維修工程總金額約0.84%。

勞工處指出，至2025年11月期間，對宏福苑工程共進行了16次巡查，檢查內容包括查看宏福苑棚架上鋪設的「棚網」產品質量證書是否符合本處要求，並按風險為本的原則，多次以書面警告方式提醒承建商須採取適當的防火措施。而勞工處最近一次巡查於11月20日進行，並於巡查後再次書面提醒承建商採取適當防火措施的必要性。

負責監察工程的顧問「鴻毅建築師有限公司」（wpa），聲明指，「本所將全力配合當局提供必要之建築圖則、資料及專業意見等以協助全面調查及評估……現階段暫不作進一步評論或披露細節，以避免影響調查程序之公正性及完整性。」

This is an old blog post of mine, but I still really appreciate this subtle feature of Rust: one of the ways it supports robust thread-safe concurrent code is by _not making everything thread-safe._ It's odd that this property is so rare in languages. Just like how clear boundaries are critical in relationships, being able to designate which parts of your program _can't_ be shared across threads is critical for ensuring that the shared parts are correct.
