What is Hackers' Pub?

Hackers' Pub is a place for software engineers to share their knowledge and experience with each other. It's also an ActivityPub-enabled social network, so you can follow your favorite hackers in the fediverse and get their latest posts in your feed.

ServerSide.Swift was another conference taking place in a museum, the Science Museum in London.
I had to go back during the weekend to visit the Mathematics and Information Age halls.
The later hosts an interesting series of computers.

Here is the Control Data 6600, probably the first successful super computer.
Designed by Seymour Cray, it is considered one of the first RISC architecture.
I ❤️ the design of the screens, it reminds me of foldable opera glasses.

Jon Seager, VP of Engineering at Canonical and I had a discussion about using Rust in Ubuntu. 🦀 🎙️

Jon is super honest about the tradeoffs of the migration (we cover uutils and sudo-rs) as well as future projects. We also touch on the costs of legacy software in C.

Podcast here: corrode.dev/podcast/s05e05-can

Thanks @jnsgrukJon Seager!

tomorrow in is the prototype fund's demo day, some friends will be showing off Reflection, an offline-first p2p enabled text collaboration app. think google docs except it works without internet or centralized authorities, purely peer-to-peer!

the event is free (you just need to register for a ticket) and i heard they will have tons of snacks ...

A bunch of folks asked whether I'll be running a Black Friday sale for Hacktivate. I hadn't planned to, but I'll make it happen – it will be on sale for 36 hours or so, starting later today. The main app is a free download, so the one-time IAP unlock will be discounted 💸

I like to use my Ghost site as my main ActivityPub account but sharing my handle with public was a little hassle. I made a simple tool to create a public profile page for your Ghost Social Web (ActivityPub) accounts. You can use https://ghostverse.link to have a public preview of your social web handle with a guidance of how to follow you. Please share feedback, so I can improve it accordingly!

RE: social.edu.nl/@Bibliothecaris/

Over the moon that we (finally) did this!

🎉 We're the first department at the @universityofgroningen to adopt , and I hope others will follow.

Next step: Exploring how we can embed PeerTube videos into our university's CMS.

So I lost my job yesterday, which means I'm looking to ! I've been a Senior Software Dev for ~8 years, but I've been programming for more than 20 years.

I have lots of experience with C, C++, C#, Python, JS, x86 and other assembly. I've touched a lot of languages on several platforms. I have worked a bunch in simulation and robotics (ROS), open-source software, and 2D and 3D graphics.

Hoping to work with interesting people on interesting projects. Diversity and accessibility are very important to me. Remote work is preferred. I am in Canada.

Edit: Getting ahead of this now. No GenAI cultism please. No late-stage corpo ad-serving, data scraping, always online, crypto stuff either.

Thank you in advance, I love you!
