Puffins on the Farne Islands, Northumberland, UK.

This year’s National Trust bird count on the Farne Islands off Northumberland has revealed a ‘mixed picture’ for the colonies of around 200,000 birds. Two years ago several species were severely impacted by an outbreak of Avian Influenza. The puffin, for which the islands are best known, saw numbers of breeding pairs drop 23 per cent on 2024’s figures - falling by 50,103 to 38,500 breeding pairs.

Narwhals in ice break, Baffin Island, Nunavut, . Noise from ships can disrupt the animals’ ability to communicate and find food. The research, carried out in 2023 and published this year, adds to mounting evidence that underwater radiated noise – sound energy that ships emit through their hulls, propellers and machinery – is disrupting marine life.

ramones.dev/posts/linkedin-is-
