"Cases of norovirus are rising across the United States, doubling over the last few months, according to updated data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Nearly 14% of tests came back positive for norovirus during the most recent week ending Nov. 15, compared to roughly 7% about three months ago."

Body tracking sensors (i.e., depth cameras) such as Microsoft Kinect have been utilized in ambient display research for more than a decade. They facilitate a deeper understanding of phenomena occurring throughout interactions, aid the investigation of ambient displays within a broader context, and effectively complement existing qualitative methods such as on-site observations. Although these sensors have made significant contributions to research, there are still challenges with regard to data collection and analysis, particularly in light of recent advances in artificial intelligence. Further research is needed into how these sensors can contribute to a better understanding of how ambient displays are used in practice long term and how they can help to develop this understanding. In this article, we expand on the potentials and limitations of body tracking sensors that we experienced in our own in-the-wild research. To this end, we present insights from a small fleet of long-term, real-world installations of ambient displays we manage, which incorporate multiple body tracking sensors. The present article is concluded with a discussion of future directions for the field. In particular, the present study explores the potential contributions of body tracking sensors to recent methodological developments in the field of Human-Computer Interaction.

RE: mastodon.social/@dansup/115497

Seems like bsky starts experimenting using mediabunny (mediabunny.dev/) to compress videos github.com/bluesky-social/soci

Loops did the same too.

The bundle size is quite big, tho' I think will still be smaller than ffmpeg-wasm (github.com/ffmpegwasm/ffmpeg.w), used on tools.rotato.app/compress (I've been using this for videos I upload here instead of Handbrake app)

Does the rest of the UK media care about the bigger picture of threatening to sue the ?

It’s got to the point now that the BBC lawyers are so twitchy they won’t even report on their own self censorship.

The star of this year’s Reith Lectures has been edited against his will about Trump’s open corruption…and now BBC journalists are banned from quoting him.

“세 마리의 형제 새가 있었소. 잉크를 마시는 새, 차를 마시는 새, 술을 마시는 새. 잉크를 마시는 새는 남의 잉크도 가져다 마셨고, 차를 마시는 새는 수영장에 찻잎을 던졌으며, 술을 마시는 새는 남은 술이 있어도 술을 긁어모았소. 그리고…”
“그리고?”
“셋 다 파산했소.”

I've been taking a bit of time away from all the noise lately, but there's also still good stuff happening. 🙂 As of today, my first journal paper is out:

fietkau.science/body_tracking_

It's essentially a project report covering much of my work from 2021 to 2024. Took us (me and co-authors Jan and @SDSusanne Draheim) a while to finish.

A funny feeling, publishing an academic article without any auxiliary media at all. No video, no presentation slides, not even a poster.

UNRWA reported that Israeli forces have continued targeting camps in Jenin, Tulkarm, and Nur Shams.

It added that around 32,000 Palestinians in the West Bank remain forcibly displaced following Israeli military operations, including the renewed order against Tulkarm Camp under operation ‘Iron Wall’ until January 2026.

Since October 2023, more than 1,000 Palestinians, including over 200 children, have been killed in the West Bank and Eastern areas of Jerusalem.

I am stepping down as head administrator of wafrn.
I will be helping with the hosting, will aprove new accounts on the registration panel, and keep the software development as usual, but moderation wise on app.wafrn.net that's all I'll do.

I will keep myself at a technical dev part on the project.
I feel like I have failed in some stuff to create the best possible comunity for everyone.

I am too reactive (BUT GABO YOU ARE AN ANGULAR DEV NOT REACT). I react too strong to too many stuff emotionaly.

There have been a few situations, the most significant one one in tumblr.

I am not saying that the other parts in this are right, nor I'm saying ive been harrassed out by them (well yes ok I was harrased off tumblr by a bunch of messages telling me to kill myself but not the point). I am saying that I feel like even if I feel like I'm right, I reacted too wrong to said situations.

I've been to angry at some stuff that I shouldnt on a personal level. This has been affecting my mental health.

Wafrn will keep going, it has outgrown me and at this point I feel like Im holging it back by having too much power on the main wafrn instance. I feel like Im an idiot with too much power. Wich by the way, host more wafrns
https://codeberg.org/wafrn/wafrn/src/branch/main/docs/deployment.md

Ill be here, but thats it. comunications will be done throught @adminWafrn - software development and instance info now by the team.
