It turns out that the US poverty line -- a line designed not to say, "above this line you are okay", but rather "below this line you are definitely NOT okay" -- was set up to be three times food prices.
But food prices haven't rised much compared to other huge expenses, especially housing, healthcare, childcare, and telecoms.

過去一キモかった声かけてきた人
メガネ屋で男の店員さんに在庫確認お願いしたら在庫なかったんだけど、その後何故か「こういうのお似合いですよ」とか「こっちの方が良いと思います」とかしつこく僕のメガネを選ぼうとし、メガネ選びたい（意訳。なんかもうちょいアドバイスしますみたいな言い回しだった気がする）って言われたのも断ったのにずっと僕の斜め後ろにつきまとい続け、めんどくせえけどメガネは必要だったのでメガネを選んで当日受け取りで閉店ギリの時間に受け取りに行ったところ、誰もいない店内で「一目惚れしたんで付き合ってください」と言われたのが一番ヤバエピソードだった
というかメガネ屋の会員なってるから向こうは住所とか把握できるわけで、そういう状態でそれは流石に怖いだろ

I'm not saying don't criticize people. Read carefully: criticize with care, and ensure that bad behaviors are not tolerated.
If bad behaviors seen in public are not rebuked in public, then any private consequences won't be incorporated into the culture of that group of people (but the bad behaviors will become the culture).
Your response to bad behaviors should always be more visible than the bad behaviors themselves, and as quickly as you can reasonably react.
Start with immediately interrupting obvious bad behaviors: "That's not what we do here." Respond to more subtle issues by investigating the underlying factors, dynamics, and history to make sure you're addressing the right thing in the right way (and not just tone policing someone who's justifiably upset) — but bring clarity back to the original audience (or wider, to squash rumors from spreading) with a louder voice than any of the prior voices.
As Dr Strangelove says, "Of course the whole point is lost if you keep it a secret WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL THE WORLD, EH?"
