What is Hackers' Pub?

Hackers' Pub is a place for software engineers to share their knowledge and experience with each other. It's also an ActivityPub-enabled social network, so you can follow your favorite hackers in the fediverse and get their latest posts in your feed.

If you know someone who wants to sign up on Mastodon and the Fediverse, you might want to suggest this guide:

➡️ fedi.garden

It's been reformatted to make it as easy as possible to sign up on a good reliable server.

If someone finds choice overwhelming, it suggests a good general server (which changes regularly).

If someone appreciates choice, there is a server directory with over 100 good servers organised into categories.

There is also a FAQ about signing up.

This guy is doing the work of God by covering the abomination of pervasive surveillance and AI profiling.

The problems of facial recognition of AI are well known, but this is the world that guys like Larry Ellison would have us believe puts everyone police included on their best behavior. (It’s bull shit)

I believe today is the first day that Ring and Flock a rolling out pervasive facial scanning

is a framework for building bots. The difference from typical Mastodon/Misskey bots? Your bot runs as its own independent server—no platform account needed.

This means no character limits, no rate limiting headaches, no API restrictions.

bot.onMention = async (session, message) => {
  await message.reply(text`Hi, ${message.actor}!`);
};

The ActivityPub stuff (federation, HTTP Signatures, delivery queues) is handled by under the hood. You just write your bot logic.

Works with both and .js.

I’m curious about the ground reality here.
How much person-to-person recruiting to Mastodon is actually happening?
No judgment in this — I’m just trying to understand the landscape a bit better. Boosts help widen the sample. Ran out of room for more options... Perhaps one option should be for anyone who encourages folks to leave this space, not just to join it (in pursuit of the small is beautiful concept, perhaps).

Question: How many people have you brought into Mastodon?
