Release v3.2.2 of Ktistec

The big feature in release v3.2.2 of Ktistec is pinned posts with support for the Mastodon Featured Posts collection. Federation works both ways—pin a post on Ktistec and it will show up as a pinned post on Mastodon and vice versa. When you refresh an actor profile, Ktistec also fetches and updates the actor's pinned posts. This is another small step in the direction of supporting all features that Mastodon-compatible client applications expect to access via the API. It's also useful in its own right.

The other major feature, which I posted a short video demonstrating here, is X-Ray Mode. X-Ray Mode is a developer and power-user tool for inspecting ActivityPub JSON-LD representations of actors, objects, and other content. Pressing Ctrl+Shift+X on any page displays the data behind the page—like an x-ray. You can:

  • Cached Version: View the local JSON-LD representation stored in the Ktistec database
  • Remote Version: Fetch and view the original JSON-LD representation from the source server
  • Navigation: Click on any ActivityPub IRI to navigate to that object
  • History: Use Alt+Left and Alt+Right to navigate through your viewing history

This feature is useful for debugging federation issues, understanding ActivityPub structures, and verifying how content is stored and represented.

一昨日入った飲食店ではQRコードを読んでスマートフォンから註文せよという案内をされて、起動させるとLINEが開いて、電話番号がどうとかドイツ語で警告された。「LINEが開いたんですけど」というとお店の若いおねえさんが「そうですよ」と答える。判らないので年寄りらしく口頭で註文した。

どうしてLINEアカウントなんだ。GitHubアカウントなら私でも註文できたかも知れないのに。

Today is the first ever WebSocialBR 🇧🇷

Online and on the ground in Brasília, the event has been put together by @redeAlquimídia

We've recently been working with the Brazilian Institute of Museums who will be in attendance and talking about our work together. Then, at 7pm GMT @evanEvan Prodromou & @j12tJohannes Ernst will be hosting a panel!

We hope that their hard work to grow the Social Web in Brazil culminates in wider adoption.

A look at Rust from 2012

Recently I was scrolling through brson’s Rust quote database and stumbled upon a link to the official Rust tutorial from the very beginning of 2013. It says Rust 0.6 in the corner, but it lists many things that were removed in 0.6, so it’s likely closer to 0.5. I heard tales of old Rust before, but not of how the language felt to programmers. So I thought it’d be cool to give a (relatively) quick summary of Rust as presented in the tutorial and yap a bit about how far we’ve come since then.

@silverpill Is POSTing to an actor's outbox (/users/:nickname/outbox) used in AP by anything except C2S? After reading the relevant parts of the spec, it doesn't seem so and I can't find any evidence of POSTs to any outbox in my access logs, but I still want to make sure.

Since I'm already making a permission change to the C2S Pleroma pipeline (which requires only authenticated users to POST to their outbox), I can look into other weird avenues of federation someone might have created.
