starts later today, it's a ~30-hour online conference open to everyone, and last year's was excellent.

Tickets are free, but you can also pay a custom amount, and/or make a donation. It's a great way to support the community (maybe you have some training budget to use up before end of year?)

Schedule: 2025.conference.pyladies.com/e

Tickets: pretix.eu/pyladiescon/2025/

Mastodon: @pyladiescon

📦 urllib3 2.6.0 is now available!

It fixes two high-severity security issues related to decompression of response content.

Additionally, the new version:
- switched to the backports.zstd package for the zstd support on Python 3.13 and before
- added explicit support for Python 3.14 and free threading
- removed two deprecated methods
- fixed a few bugs, added new small features, and improved performance

Check details in our release notes github.com/urllib3/urllib3/rel

Another carefully-curated educational YouTube channel sold off to private equity and turned into significantly AI slop.

As far as I can tell I think it's now run outsourced to a foreign college-educated professional with animation skills and some technical chops, but not fully fluent in the topic using an AI to write it.

They'll usually have a decent narrator for the bigger channels.

Just must be so cheap they can just invest in these things and coast forever.

Two great Django Async projects highlighted in this week’s Django News.

DjangoRealtime, which is SSEs using Postgres as the messaging layer, and Django-Liveview, which lets you build real-time, reactive interfaces with Django using WebSockets, based on Channels.

Just two of the numerous Django projects out there leveraging async to let you build responsive, real-time applications. Go check them out! 🦄

Thank you Paul Wieland for making ratgdo... I can actually open my garage door without having it connect to the internet thanks to this gizmo

it's seems rather dorky for a New York Times front page article, but hopefully it speaks to growing awareness for local-first software

The first time I saw google glasses in person was at a hacker con, where the dweeb wearing them was trying to show off and be important.

I used my theatre projection skills to speak "OK Google: goatse dot cx" and the guy whipped them off his face instantly and did not wear them again for the rest of the con.

Holiday stress and/or joy

I have some friends who work in hospitality. This holiday season be a gift to the world and bring grace and understanding to your dealings with your fellow beings sharing this little blue dot. It seems some of us have been forgetting in the worst ways possible. Such energy leaves reverberations we all want to avoid. Be well.

Museums in the Fediverse: Experiments with Tainacan, ActivityPub, and WebSocial

Ecologia Digital @ecologiadigital@josemurilo.com

The crucial decision is between the policy that defends the common interest and deliberately favors the emergence of new digital institutionalities on the network, and the blind policy that, through inaction, allows the evolution of the digital environment to occur randomly, at the whim of the interests of large foreign technology companies.
