Zuckerberg has blown 77 billion – enough money to revitalize entire countries – on an idea so overwhelmingly, obviously stupid that I have never once heard anyone, from the Thanksgiving avuncular table to the most wretched depths of social media, say they liked it or even tried it. He was so sure that it would revolutionize the world that he renamed his extremely famous company after it. And now he's on to the next thing that he's so very, very sure about.

The world needs direction from sober people who aim to improve the human condition, not the whims of a handful of billionaire princelings who absolutely, positively cannot be dissuaded from failing at unprecedented scale while chasing their own vainglory off the edge of a cliff.

When the House and Senate marked up stablecoin legislation, we raised all of these concerns - their anonymity, their nearly perfect design for money laundering. All the barn doors were left wide open. It’s used for crime because that is its purpose. nytimes.com/2025/12/07/technol

I say they aren’t stable because for all of that to work, the issuers of the stablecoin have to have a robust, audited reserve of dollars to pay out when a claim comes in and the GOP blocked all our amendments to require audits and hold reserves in insured accounts. BUT…

Having sent a crappy bill to the Senate the Senate - per tradition - made our bill worse by adding a provision that says that in the event of a run on a bank holding stablecoin deposits, those deposits have a senior claim, above those of law abiding citizens in insured accounts.

if an organization doesn't have a full DEI strategy and policies explicitly communicated and visibly followed through upon all while taking full responsibility for its past wrongs and showing the evidence for them...

...then a mediocre white man might commit a mass murder out of hatred for women who want to be engineers. that was 36 years ago in Montreal.

this attack on diversity, equity, and inclusion isn't some new edgy fight that fascists are finally able to push forward on. people with factors of privilege have always used violence in response to the threat of others getting a chance. the only path to stop this is forward. we need to commit to change to the point that it feels normal for everyone to see this diversity and things are no longer unspokenly taken for granted.

A few years ago, way before "AI" and LLMs became a thing, I made a game called Detective, where the players were randomly paired either with another player, or a chatbot, and had to figure out whether they're speaking with a "robot", or a human pretending to be one.

Looks like we're all playing that game now.

"AI is trained off people, and people copy what they see other people doing. People become more like AI, and AI becomes more like people."
