On another topic, I think I am moving to NixOS for everything…

After discovering nixos-anywhere and colmena, it seems like a much easier path than maintaining my own Debian based image, and applying ad-hoc conversation via ansible

I will still need ansible for Wireguard and k3s credentials, but that makes the whole infrastructure much more unified and deterministic

Soon, a flow of machines abstracted in a big cohesive lump, what a dream

"Eugene and Springfield both announce end of Flock camera usage"

opb.org/article/2025/12/06/eug

“This is very wonderful and exciting victory for the people of Eugene and Springfield who have rejected Flock’s dragnet surveillance,” Kamryn Stringfield told KLCC via email.

The point of this post is to talk about key autonomy on Bluesky but I find it interesting for the poster's statistic on the number of people who are running their own PDSes: 997.

997 on the entire plc.directory network.

That's a large number by many standards, but not compared to Bluesky's userbase.

I do wonder about the methodology, and whether I would get excluded because my PDS technically has 3 users (me, and 2 test accounts belonging to me).

disease transmission, US-specific :boost_request:

Katelyn Jetelina reports that "influenza-like illnesses" (with symptoms of coughs, fevers, and sore throats) have reached seasonal epidemic levels in the US: "This is when I start masking in crowded indoor spaces like airports. Yes, well-fitted masks work. This is a physics question with a clear answer. And I’ll take all the protection I can get—I’d love to not miss upcoming school performances, work travel, and some fun family events."
(yourlocalepidemiologist.substa)

If you're not already masking in crowded indoor spaces, now is the time to get your N95/KN95s back out. You may be confident your immune system can handle whatever comes your way, but it's not fair to assume that is true of everyone you share space with.

I really, really,
REALLY
hate doorslams.

The way Bluesky taunts you to either comply or "well, just fuck off" here is a *link* to log out we won't even bother to make it a button.

It boils my blood.

(yeah don't try to contact me over there. Also haiii newcomers, brace for a new wave, Fedi)

v1.111 is live today! We've upgraded our Age Assurance system to comply with upcoming laws in Australia and other regions, and to restore access to people over 18 in Mississippi. Plus, we fixed some bugs and laid the groundwork for improved "who to follow" suggestions in the near future.

Bleh. Just saw a friend who found out they couldn’t be followed by one of their friends because (unbeknownst to both parties) the moderators of their friend’s instance had defederated from their own instance. All of this, for people who barely know what any of these terms mean. What they experience is, “Two people you’ve never met have a beef you’ve never heard about over an issue you don’t know about, so your friend can’t see you. And there’s no fix.” It’s just terrible all around.
