What is Hackers' Pub?

The De La Fere cowl by Melanie Rountree is live! I tested for this pattern and it was a delight (except the corrugated rib, but if you don’t like that, little secret, you can skip it and nobody will mind). It comes in three yarn thicknesses and it’s ideal for leftover yarn and gift knitting. ravelry.com/patterns/library/d

Yesterday was the third anniversary of Raspberry Pi announcing that they'd hired an ex-cop (specifically a Technical Surveillance Officer) as their "Maker-in-residence", and then pissing off a huge segment of their target market by acting completely oblivious as to why that might be a problem.

I missed my calendar reminder about it, so instead you can celebrate the third anniversary of Buzzfeed writing an article about it:

I really, really,
REALLY
hate doorslams.

The way Bluesky taunts you to either comply or "well, just fuck off" here is a *link* to log out we won't even bother to make it a button.

It boils my blood.

(yeah don't try to contact me over there. Also haiii newcomers, brace for a new wave, Fedi)

I don't think Bluesky realizes how—after screaming till their faces turned red, just how independent and *different* they are—this reads to anyone with half a wit: "We can *and will* arbitrarily, on a whim, without proper advance notice or any opportunity for protestations block your access to interact with the platform and there is absolutely NOTHING you can do about it."

I need you to stop scrolling and read the most human piece of writing I've read in a very, very long time.

Thanks, @WeirdWriterRobert Kingett.

Edit: If you feel like you got a lot out of this piece, I'm sure Rob would definitely appreciate some subscribers to his newsletter and tips/a paid subscription if you can afford it! It's not easy making a living as a writer.

Shameless self-promotion alert!

It was such a pleasure to discuss with @parismarx how right-wing governments and international corporations in the European Union are pushing to gut tech regulations with the goal of boosting AI development in totally misguided hope of improving economic growth and geopolitical standing.

mass surveillance

RE: chaos.social/@andre_meister/11

EU member states are once again asking for a new law on mass data retention, more expansive than before. It would include almost all internet services & messenger service like WhatsApp and Signal.

Netzpolitik.org leaks a document showing this: netzpolitik.org/2025/internes-
