My general impression of the Oxide folks is that they have reasonable approaches to things, so their RFD on LLMs is…disappointing.

LLMs are superlative at reading comprehension, able to process and meaningfully comprehend documents effectively instantly.

No, no they are not. LLMs absolutely do not comprehend or understand at all. I cannot believe how many folks in our profession believe this.

Random thought: the centralization of authentication to a few big OAuth providers like MS and Google, combined with services that time out your cookies and force relogins every so often, makes phishing people so much easier.

Want someone's account creds? Just pop up something that looks like a ms or google login form, odds are they're so conditioned by login fatigue that they'll automatically type their creds and TOTP token into it.

In the old days, when I had to explicitly log into a specific system that I was manually navigating to, things were harder to phish because you'd have to impersonate *that site* at exactly the time I was intending to log in.

Now, I can be in the middle of a workflow doing something else and a random OAuth popup asking for my credentials appears. Is it my VPN? Mail client? Internal service X? Who knows.

Yesterday, I read this from the "On this day" section of Wikipedia.

Brown Dog affair

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brown_Do

I often feel sad about the shape of the world. Maybe it is because of my limited knowledge.

Sometimes I realize that the world of the past wasn't much different from the present. At times like these, these knowing experiences act as a kind of painkiller for me.

But this time it felt more bitter than usual.

the reason executives are pushing AI so hard is they've always **hated** that they need people who can actually do things. people who can draw, sing, write, code, dance, film. people with taste who can pick colors and design spaces and draw. People who know how to edit footage and audio, who know things about lighting and languages, who can do research and analyze laws and regulations.
