RE: mastodon.social/@tusk81/115726

“For the first time in six months, there will be no military deployed on the streets of Los Angeles,” California Atty. Gen. Rob Bonta said in a statement. “While this decision is not final, it is a gratifying and hard-fought step in the right direction.”

Please, my children, we desperately need help. The tent is worn out and we need some tarpaulins. Please, any support could save us.

And also, again and again — people need to know this! — I get these messages too:

ICE started to gather, but dispersed when too many observers showed up.

ICE vehicle headed back to base after being tailed in circles for an hour.

ICE started abducting someone, but let them go as the gathered crowd got larger and larger.

These people •really• do not want to be observed. Typical bullies: they cosplay tough guys, they waggle their gear around, but they •behave• like they’re afraid.

I got really angry at my Apple Watch because the 1) updates have made it very slow 2) UI changes have made muscle memory useless 3) the exercise app in particular has changed so much and is so fussy about where you touch it and is so stupidly design for people who are a) sweating b) tired c) have shaking hands d) can’t see very well e) already aggravated by exertion that half the time it hasn’t even started recording my session at all, or is asking me stupid questions when I just want it to start logging.

I feel strongly about user interaction and this product is bad and getting worse.

Please boost, I want to debate:

I’ve been reflecting on my relationship with constant availability.
Many of my friends tell me that having a smartphone means being reachable 24/7, that this is simply what caring looks like today.

For me, it’s different. Messaging costs real mental and emotional energy.
When I reply once a day, it’s not disengagement: it’s me trying to stay present in a way that feels honest and sustainable.

This question resurfaced recently on a dating app. A woman told me she couldn’t invest in someone who only replies once a day.
That moment made me realize how often responsiveness is taken as a proxy for interest, availability, or emotional maturity.

I’m not sure constant replying equals real presence.
Sometimes, slowing down feels like the only way I can stay genuine with others and with myself.

I’m curious how others experience this:
Do response-time expectations shape how you connect? Where does care end and obligation begin?
