🎉 New Changelog interview!

Ajay Kulkarni from Tiger Data (Co-founder/CEO) is on the pod this week with @adamAdam Stacoviak. He asked him to get vulnerable and trace his path to becoming a CEO. They dig into the themes that have shaped his career, and explore how founder values end up forming company culture (whether you intend them to or not). From his enterprise days to building Timescale (and the rename to Tiger Data), we cover the whole journey —...

you really fucking need to mask 😷

so this flu season is turning up to be much worse than the last few. plus there's a new variant doing the rounds in Europe that wasn't recognised in time to be put into the annual vaccines (though you should still vaccinate to prevent other variants or any recombination, and it may still confer a benefit, maybe).
luckily we have a solution: masks!
you know what to do. mask up. yes even when it's uncomfortable. mask the fuck up.

Pixelfed adopted the MastoAPI for mobile app compatibility, and I love Mastodon for making that possible and not limiting it to their project only.

That being said, it's very liberating to build our own API for Loops.

We serve a very different purpose than Mastodon, and we can more efficiently represent that.

I look forward to publishing our API documentation and for 3rd party devs to build alternative clients.

When your platform is open and federated, everything is possible.

So let's build

After reading endless excitement of @stefanoStefano Marinelli for BSD, last week I decided to give a try in a VM. As I'm completely new for BSD world, I chose GhostBSD. After a couple of days, I became addicted of it :) It is so solid and simple that I literally felt what peace of mind is. Also it was a big surprise for me to see how offical repository in such a good shape. I quikly found my backup tool Kopia, my Signal Client, and Librewolf there. I'm seriously thinking to change my workflow from Linux to BSD.

The recording of the December 18th, 2025 Production User Call is up:

youtu.be/iyqOPuFVzDo

We discussed CPU ID progress, LibVirt/ARM64, /ARM64, configuration file syntax and validation, hot-pluggable devices, affordable ARM64 platforms, ZFS history tracking with devd and Netlink, virt-manager, a bootindex bug, the EDK2 update that is dying in review, grub-bhyve, the release notes format, our 2026 wish list items, and more!

"Don't forget to slam those Like and Subscribe buttons."

You can support all Call For Testing efforts via BSD Fund: bsdfund.org

This will be the last Production User Call I moderate unless:

A. U.S. healthcare subsidies resume
B. I find a cushy corporate or dot org job
C. I find solid funding sources for this work

I have a few beloved Patreon sponsors but my calls for sponsorship of CFT via BSD Fund have only resulted in a donation of $100 in Bitcoin.

It has been an honor and a pleasure.

Again, my work is either done here or just beginning, I just don't know which.

I've finally switched to the @Vivaldi browser. I've been using Firefox for as long as I've been on the internet, but the focus on AI means it's no longer the browser for me. Thankfully unlike Chrome, Vivaldi supports the uBlock Origin extension which is the most important extension for being able to browse the web nowadays.

To spell this out clearly, the reason RAM has quadrupled in price is that a huge quantity of RAM that hasn't been produced yet has been bought with money that doesn't exist to populate GPUs that also haven't been produced to go in datacenters that haven't been built powered by infrastructure that may never exist to meet a demand that doesn't exist at all to make profit margins that mathematically can't exist while economists talk about this thing they call the "rational markets hypothesis".
