This Gmail hack is unsettling not because it’s flashy, but because it’s bureaucratic. Attackers aren’t breaking encryption or outsmarting algorithms. They’re filling out forms. By changing an account’s age and abusing Google’s Family Link feature, they can quietly reclassify an adult user as a “child” and assume parental control. At that point, the rightful owner isn’t hacked so much as administratively erased.
The clever part is that everything happens inside legitimate features. Passwords are changed. Two-factor settings are altered. Recovery options are overwritten. And when the user tries to get back in, Google’s automated systems see a supervised child account and do exactly what they were designed to do: say no.
Google says it’s looking into the issue, which suggests this wasn’t how the system was supposed to work. But it’s a reminder of an old lesson. Security failures often happen when protective mechanisms are combined in ways no one quite imagined. The tools aren’t broken. The assumptions are.
There’s no dramatic fix here, only mildly annoying advice that suddenly feels urgent. Review recovery settings. Lock down account changes. Use passkeys. Because once an attacker controls the recovery layer, proving you’re you can become surprisingly difficult.

@inthehandsPaul Cantrell I think I have been journeying my way through the same thoughts you've put down here. I watched a video on yt last night "30 signs you're masking autism" and it left me wondering if some of us are extraverted but high masking, creating the same draining effect from masking in social settings that would make one assume they are introverted. This goes double (triple, quadruple, etc?) for those of us who are closeted trans and/or queer.
In transition and working through AuDHD masking, I'm finding myself feeling more proactively social. It's still draining, though I'm discovering that I can stick in there a lot longer if I notice when I need breaks and can take them quickly enough. If I simply run out to my car or to the bathroom for less than 2 minutes when I need to, I can stick out and even enjoy social settings for hours, even if I went there by myself.
I mention all that to say: I used to think I was an introvert. Now, I'm pretty sure I'm not. Another trans person I follow joked about "transitioning to extravert," to which I now totally relate. This speaks to the idea of reduced or mitigated masking "changing" one's extraversion/introversion, or maybe actually revealing their extraversion. It could also bring the whole concept into question. What if nobody is introverted, but the drain is coming from whichever masks they bear? What if the masks are for an as-yet-unknown neurodivergence, or a novel combination of the known?
To me that just loops perfectly into your thread at this point. Extraversion, introversion, neurodivergence, allism. Are these terms useful, or are they "average" concepts against which we compare ourselves only to our detriment?

“Are these terms useful?” → Yes, I think they are. Naming patterns is useful. Identifying commonly shared characteristics is useful. Creating anchor points for sharing experiences, strategies, and new understanding is useful. We can use these terms without being reductive, or assuming any one of them completely describes a person.
It’s useful to have a word like “autistic” the same way it’s useful to have a word like “yellow,” even though yellow is a range of colors and there is no well-defined bright line where yellow becomes orange.
It’s specifically “neurotypical” as a category of person I’m arguing against. “Orange” is a color, but “none of the above” is…not.

크리스마스 당일 저녁부터 맹렬한 한파가 찾아옵니다. 이 한파로 인해 북서풍이 불어오며 광주, 전주 등 전남과 서해안 일대에는 눈이 내릴 수도 있겠습니다. 의문의 화이트 크리스마스입니다. 기온은 심각하게 급감, 서울 기준 26일 최저기온은 영하 -10℃를 넘어설 가능성이 크게 열렸습니다. KIM 모델에서는 아예 낮 최고기온까지 영하권에 쳐박힐 것이라고 예상하고 있는데요. 이 한파는 비록 하루이틀 반짝 하고 서서히 물러나가겠지만 워낙에 한랭핵의 세기가 강렬해서 풀려도 풀린 것 같지 않을정도로 매우 추워지니 든든한 대비를 당부드려요.
산지 일부 지역엔 눈이 되어 내릴 수도 있겠는데요. 전체적으로 강수량은 5~20mm 사이로 그리 많지는 않겠습니다. 오늘 아침 최저기온은 -5~8℃, 낮 최고기온은 4~15℃로 주요 도시별로는 서울 0~5℃, 대전 -2~10℃, 대구 -2~11℃, 광주 0~14℃, 부산 6~15℃, 제주 9~18℃입니다. 확실히 온난한 고기압 영향을 강하게 받는 남부지방은 굉장히 포근한 반면, 수도권이나 중부지방은 꽤나 춥죠. 이는 남하한 제트기류 사이로 커다란 한랭핵이 하나 파고들어 일어났는데요. 편서풍역이 크게 남하했다는건 한파가 온단거죠.
이쯤 하면 한 사람에 의해 정말 팍스 아메리카나라는 한 시대의 끝이 보인다는 느낌까지 들기도 합니다. 어제보다 날씨가 많이 풀린 이브 전날, 황당한 뉴스를 보며 인사드립니다. 간밤엔 잘 주무셨나요. 오늘은 오후부터 비가 예고되어 있습니다. 내일 아침엔 대부분 그칠 것으로 보이는데요. 850hPa 일기도와 습수예상도 보시겠습니다. 15시 경에 한반도에 수증기대가 지나가는게 보이죠. 또 보하이만 서쪽으로 긴 기압골이 형성되어 있는데, 이 구름이 한반도에 영향을 주어 인천, 경기북서부는 오전, 전국 대부분은 12시부터 비가 오겠습니다.
실제로 EIA(미국 에너지정보청)의 STEO(단기 에너지 전망) 보고서를 보면 겨울 추위로 주거/상업 가스 소비량이 예측 대비 6% 증가하고 천연가스 가격을 10% 가까이 오른 MMBtu당 3.87USD로 예상하기까지 했습니다. 일전에 SSW가 예상된다고 말씀드린 바 있잖아요? 에디 열속(Eddy heat flux) 모델을 확인해보니 12월 중순 경에 실제로 발생한 것이 확인되었습니다. 실제 ECWMF 차트를 보면 12월 말 사이에서 1월 초 사이에 강력한 한파가 미국을 두드릴 것이라는걸 어렵지 않게 찾아볼 수 있는데요.
그런데 불과 2주 전, 매사추세츠 연방지법에서 해상 풍력 금지령은 불법이라고 판결했었다는건데요. 정말 알 수 없습니다.
트럼프는 꾸준히 기후변화는 사기극이라며 풍력 터빈은 새의 떼죽음을 유발하고 경관을 해치며 터빈 수명이 8년에 불과하다는 등의 비난을 쏟아내고 있습니다. 터빈 수명이 30년 이상이라고 "미 에너지부"가 발표한건 안 보이나 봐요.
문제는 영국에 이어 미국도 에너지 비용 급등이 발생하고 있다는 것입니다. 용량 경매에서 데이터센터의 전력 소비가 전체 비용의 45%를 차지했는데, 평년보다 추운 겨울까지 예고되고 있죠.
