I've heard anecdotal reports of computer repair places "accidentally" breaking the ram and refunding the customer the catalogue price from six months ago, presumably to feed it into machines of more important corporate customers... so we're already at the scavenging-to-survive stage of AI economic collapse :lolsob:

On the heels of the NixOS 25.11 release, I reproduced the minimal
installation ISO again.

My approach is to take a NixOS VM from 2020, and then build the ISO (almost) without relying on the binary cache. This means it builds essentially all of the build-time dependencies and all of the items that make it into the ISO
from source, without directly relying on Nix-specific prebuilt packages. On the other hand, NixOS is somewhat less strict than for example Debian in
requiring package 'sources' are actually sources, so a few builds (notably go) are actually 'built' from upstream binary releases.

It's very satisfying to see such a long (albeit well-controlled) Rube Goldberg machine of builds results in a single hash that is identical to the one from the ISO you can download from the website.

8 years @ Apple today! 🎉

This is my third stint here, and I keep coming back b/c of the people. I’ve made some of my closest friends at Apple. There are people who believed in me long before I did, and that belief fundamentally shaped my career.

I’ve worked alongside some of the smartest humans I know...people who can casually say things like “I invented VoiceOver” or “I wrote the Dock.”

The company may have its faults, but I'm grateful to work here, especially getting to do so from Norway.

경복궁 근정전 앞 큰 향로의 몸체를 100여년간 덮고 있다가 홀연히 사라졌던 뚜껑이 복원됐다. 국가유산청 궁능유적본부 경복궁관리소는 60여년 전 유실된 근정전 향로 뚜껑 두점을 최근 다시 만들었으며, 기존 향로 몸체에 새 뚜껑을 얹어 복원한 모습을 24일부터 상시 공개
