🚂 Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad No. 643, the sole surviving H-1 class 2-10-4 "Texas" type steam locomotive engine built in 1944 by Baldwin. Weighing around 520,000 lb, it is one of the heaviest steam locomotives ever built.

Photos from 2018, when it sat in an impound. Now it is restored and part of the Age of Steam Roundhouse Museum in Sugarcreek, Ohio.

This is an image of an old steam train, number 643, abandoned and covered in vines. The train's black paint is faded and weathered.A black and white close-up of a rusty steam train. Without looking it up can you remember *why* Mary and Joseph were traveling when she was so pregnant? Why didn't they have a place to stay?

If you can't remember or never knew give your best guess. (I'm curious about the stories that live in people's heads as much as the ones that were written down.)

Damn. It is so hard to get excited about something.

I just spoke with a friend who talked for a year about building a gaming PC. He finally did it, and guess what. It is just okay.

The exciting part was building the PC itself, but actually playing on it is only minimally better than a five year old PlayStation.

⚡️Ukraine set to count voters, preparing for potential elections during war.

"Updating the voter register is one of the fundamental conditions for holding any elections," said David Arakhamia, leader of the Servant of the People faction. "The war has had a significant impact on demographic indicators, and this must be reflected in the register."

I used Restic a while ago to back up data on Laravel Forge servers. More recently I’ve used Duplicati for the stuff Coolify doesn’t have built-in backup systems for, and it’s been good.

Zerobyte, however, has brought me back to Restic with a simpler and sexier interface than Duplicati—and nice notifications, too. Pretty swell!

Glad I stumbled on @shollyethanEthan Sholly’s post that mentioned it! selfh.st/post/2025-favorite-ne

Screenshot of Zerobyte’s web interface, with Backups selected listing an `outline` backup that sends daily filesystem data to Backblaze B2. Dark, deliciously nerdy UI that’s pleasantly polished.

A question for mappers. There is a mall in my city, which I'm using a lot and it was not mapped properly, since 2019 I think — there are a lot of non-existent amenities, a lot of new amenities don't exist on the map, and a lot of POI placed semi-randomly.

I tried to fix it "on foot" by editing and moving amenities, but it is not very easy for me with Every Door application and without JOSM (and without the big screen with a big keyboard) :drgn_flat_sob: .

So, I think about to take the official website of the mall, which has the actual information about all the stores inside and about their position inside the building — and fix the map for this mall.

But I unable to find — is it legal (in terms of OSM) to use this external source of information (floor plans for mall visitors) in OSM mapping?

When an entire class of technology states on the packaging that it was made in China but intended "for overseas use only," this should really give you pause before plugging it into your network.

You will find this verbiage on a lot of Android TV streaming boxes for sale at the major retailers. There's a very good reason the country that makes this crap doesn't want it on their own networks. My advice: If you have one of these Android streaming boxes on your network or get one as a gift, toss it in the trash. I'll have a lot more about this in the New Year, but these things are responsible for building out a botnet that currently has ~2M devices and is growing rapidly. blog.xlab.qianxin.com/kimwolf-

Rom 32GB
Input DC5v, 2000 mA
Made in China
Overseas use only

Idea: a robo lawyer like DoNotPay or Rocket Money but for getting you wiped / block-listed from political databases that spam and share your email and phone number. As soon as a new campaign is filed with the FEC it would go unsubscribe you from whatever list they bought, and would keep following up as long as the campaign was active. It would cost $20 / month and all profit would go to fund progressive causes. If this post gets 100K likes I will build the prototype.
