the current network of ICE concentration camps wouldn't be politically or logistically possible without the massive, bi-partisan carceral state we've built up over many decades since the Civil Rights Act. likewise, the ugly civil rights violations committed by the CBP/DHS and the high-seas massacres committed by the US military stem directly from the War on Terror. again, fully bi-partisan.

Today's is paperless-ngx, a key part of keeping us, well, paperless.

It is a document management tool, but I use it in a very basic way: it is hooked up to our scanner, and anything we scan gets automatically converted to PDF and OCRd. We then shred the paper. I try to scan, and shred, everything on the day that it arrives.

It is particularly useful around tax return time, as it means I can easily get the information I need from stuff which people have posted to us.

That myth that "we" (the elder people) used pencils to put cassettes back in a working state. Here's the truth: pencils don't work for that. They are too thin for the job. But the cap of a BIC Cristal pen was just perfect. It was rather weak, malleable plastic, so it gripped perfectly.

Bonus points if you know why the cap has a hole at the top ;)

UPDATE: Some in the comments insist they did use (angled) pencils. Poor folk. The BIC was the better way :)

I keep seeing Mozilla people saying AI will be "opt-in" and that a "kill-switch" for disabling all AI features is coming.

I think maybe they don't know what "opt-in" means. You don't use a "kill-switch" to turn something on.
