Time to #askfedi... My private #notebook is now 14 years old and I would like to find a replacement. Ideally, the next one will be a #convertible simply because I like viewing stuff in portrait mode from time to time.
Do I see correctly that my options for a convertible ("2-in-1" device) with #linux support are essentially: several Thinkpad models, Framework 12 and Tuxedo InfinityFlex (whenever the new generation arrives)?

I understand that I am perceived to have some manner of technology reach and influence based on my shitposting, for which I am grateful!
But I do not understand where people think they will get yelling at me if I even just mention using something that's a tech product instead of idk, as a classic example let's say, using some open source thing I have genuinely never heard of run by 2 strangers in a basement, one of whom has a years-long history of bigotry online. I will not do it.
We have "growth hackers" but no "stability hackers." "Disruptors" but no "preservers." Our entire vocabulary is oriented toward the new. We have no language for the equally difficult work of keeping existing things from falling apart.

My new phone has FaceID, and this mostly works. But sometimes it's laggy in a really irritating way:
* FaceID doesn't recognize me, so the passcode screen comes up
* I start entering my passcode
* FaceID decides 'oh it's you after all' and unlocks, with the passcode pad disappearing.
* I'm still entering my passcode so I tap on something random on the now unlocked screen.
Look, phone, when I start entering a passcode, STOP. Let me finish or cancel. I thought we leaned better by now but no.
I love that on the Fediverse thinking "this is such good moss content" and "wow, these mushrooms are really cool" is totally normal.
