The problem with stories like this is that "regulations" can mean very, very different things to different people. It's easy to say "regulate AI." It's extremely difficult to come up with actual regulations that won't kick off another partisan shitshow fight once it gets distorted.

I've been thinking about points like these quite hard. As a young student, I've found there are not many scenarios (again, as a student) in which I feel comfortable using AI. It is good for quick projects and the tech is undeniably cool, but I am trying my best to be my best and I don't think AI fits into that picture. It would be silly to say "AI is useless"; it's not. But, awareness must be raised w/r/t the influence of brain-inspired algorithms.

When ChatGPT was released 3 years ago I never anticipated how it could become a source of tensions with people in my life.
So to add to its many damages, it's a source of:
- environmental catastrophe
- economic bubble
- monumental job losses with bosses leaning into AI and laying off workers
- loss of critical thinking
- destruction of higher ED methods
- further isolation with people using AI characters as "romantic partners"
- dangerous medical advice (especially with reliance on it for mental health support)
(I'm probably forgetting other important things)
AND:
source of tensions inside homes and with friends when you have a person critical of AI (🙋♀️) attempting to reason with a person whose default setting is: "I'll ask ChatGPT". Pointing out flagrant mistakes by AI seems to make their heads explode and get angry at the messenger. Ouf.
Sorry for the downer but I'm sure this is a pretty common problem...
Anyway, this morning I was given hope by a toot from

今年在國外買的書本最喜歡的一本是這本日本的文樣，這本是在京都博物館購買的，當時在找有分時代的日本和服、裝飾紋樣的歷史資料，這本雖然沒有把時代區分看不出流行的變化，不過因為是口袋書尺寸，我無法抵擋口袋書的魅力所以年底回顧還是推薦它❤️，他是一本很適合對日本常用裝飾紋樣入門的手冊。
不過要說不滿的地方，喜事、祭事、地位象徵、一般流行的紋樣都有，但是避忌的紋樣很少有作者提及，但從我角度看要了解一個地方的文化了解那個避忌是很重要的，今後再繼續尋找。

End of the year is hitting me harder than I'd like. I'm tired of no amount of production ever being enough; I'm tired of people asking me to teach and give talks for free; I'm tired of making new websites and content; I'm tired of being evaluated continually on nothing but production
yes I made altbot
yes I contributed most of the code
yes I run the main instance and have a server in a data center mainly for it
but. altbot is not only my project. i get busy, I get tired, I get bored. i do what I can to maintain and support it. but help from other people would be also very helpful. like, a proper github issue is better than a fedi dm telling me what's wrong. but contributing a fix to it would help me. a lot more than anything else.
i feel like Ive been in this weird in between, like all my code is open source and copy left, but.. its still only me doing the coding.
Ive gotten help from some close friends, with moral support, sometimes even planning, and processing criticism.
but like.. idk, how high is altbot's bus factor? all the code is opensource.. but would anyone actually step up to maintain it? my honest opinion is no.
and I feel that I somehow failed in specifically building a community for altbot. i somehow made it a thing people use and rely on.. but not a thing that people wanna help fix or work on. and I don't know how to change that to be honest.
or how to even change that for future projects. maybe I don't know how to interest other people codewise. but honestly I just dont know.
i really wish altbot had a community which discussed how to make it better all the time, and where I wouldnt even nessicerally be making the big decisions.
or maybe all this is just wishful thinking..
anyway i'm just saying, i fully agree that this story is dysfunctional. i just really wish i had access to even a dysfunctional train system
next one is 266km, 2.4 million people. in order to take a train to that one, i have to take the train to the first one (again, once a day) and then to it, meaning that journey takes 16 hours and 20 minutes. if it's on time.
sorry, scratch that: 25,000 people for the original destination, 76,000 for the change of plans for context, europeans, the closest "real" city to me has a single train daily. it has 1.5 million people. ~130km.
