What is Hackers' Pub?

I have never seen the word "perihelion" in a weather warning before! Wow.

I'm totally saving this to show my students why basic astro 101 is very practical sometimes (...ok maybe the prairies do not have a tidal flooding problem...but... perihelion!!)

The New Year's Resolution I would love to convince as many people as possible to take up:

Start taking back your web presence: Make yourself a website.

You need to own your domain! If your website is at <some-name>.<some-service>.com it's not your site, it's theirs.

You don't need to own the server! In 2026 having your server in your home is made intentionally hard! Renting from someone who does the sys-admin for you is valid!

It does not need to be complicated! A (relatively) simple wordpress site on a rented host is enough.

Then if you want to get fancy there's dozens of site generators and site engines and HTML resources on the web.
