In a job interview they asked what I was most proud of at the job before last. I told them that my evidence helped the jury convict the FD and the judge sent him down for a few years. On the way back I realised that this was not the answer they were looking for.

PSA, elitism (especially in tech-/chaos spaces)

a reminder that elitism is to be outlawed in any and all social circles and -interactions

its completely ok to not have a fancy nixos setup with niri, and to use something stock that works for you instead
its completely ok to use vscode instead of helix or nvim or whatever, and vice versa!
its completely ok if you do not have the spoons, energy or frankly if you just do not want to switch off of windows/linux/$distro because it feels comfy to you

do what sparks joy for you. "cringe" is not real. you are pawsome.

Canada also has crude oil America wants. And critical minerals it desperately needs.

New Year, New Me

One of the big changes I made at the end of 2025 was shaving off my moustache. I’ve had a moustache since mid-2020; I talked about my reasons for growing one in my post called My Moustache. I think it looked really good, and it made me feel connected to my Middle Eastern heritage — both Greek and Arab. It was a pretty prominent feature and people would compliment me on the street for it.

But after 5 years, I was starting to feel overshadowed by the moustache. I think I was leaning too hard on it as part of my personality. When I talked about changing it up, my wife and kids would get upset — like I wouldn’t be the same person without it. It felt a little uncomfortable.

So, I decided to take the opportunity of the New Year to learn who I am without a handlebar moustache. I’m going to try living without a moustache for the whole of 2026; we’ll see how far I get. I am enjoying the freedom of being able to eat and drink much more neatly, and my bare lip does not require the same amount of care and grooming as it used to.

Thanks to all the nice people who have complimented my new look. To those who regret the loss of my distinguishing characteristic: I get it! It’s a little jarring to see this bare face without its central feature. I feel a little like a Mr. Potatohead with a missing accessory.

Dass Merz auf Arme, Linke, Minderheiten, Nicht-Deutsche, Nicht-Weiße losgeht, aber Reiche in Ruhe lässt und Trump mit Samthandschuhen zuwinkt, ist kein Wunder und auch kein Zeichen von Schwäche, sondern Absicht. Er ist extrem rechtskonservativ.

I looked through every California federal rep and tried to find if they made a statement about the invasion, linked to their statement and sorted by how much I like the statement

I have X blocked in my regular browser so for the first 8ish reps I forgot to check if they made a statement on X.

My method was search for their house.gov website, see if there's a press release, then look at bluesky or twitter accounts if mentioned.

These are stronger condemnations mentioning the US's history of imperialism
