I published new releases of some of my projects today:

Feedlynx saves links to read/watch later, and exposes them as an RSS feed. The new version detects duplicate links & lets you know you have already saved that link. I also tweaked the Firefox extension to handle this. github.com/wezm/feedlynx

git-grab clones git repos into a standard file-system hierarchy, bringing order to all the random repos you clone. The new version improves the clipboard support. github.com/wezm/git-grab

RE: social.vivaldi.net/@everton137

Has anyone here come across Venezuelans on the Fediverse? I personally know only one Venezuelan refugee, and they live in Brazil.

If we don’t have a meaningful presence from the Global South or from other vulnerable regions, that, to me, exposes one of the key limitations of this social space.

Are we, in fact, just a small, relatively privileged group talking mostly among ourselves?

"The world’s 500 richest people added a record $2.2 trillion to their collective fortunes last year."

"About a quarter of that went to just eight Big Tech billionaires: Jeff Bezos, Sergey Brin, Michael Dell, Larry Ellison, Jensen Huang, Elon Musk, Larry Page, & Mark Zuckerberg."

"In New York, Mamdani has proposed raising the state corporate tax rate from 8.85% to 11.5% & hiking taxes for individuals who make more than $1 million a year."

This chart shows the total number of Stack Overflow questions asked each month. As you can see, AI summaries in Google and AI coding tools have nearly killed the site. It is only a matter of time before the site shuts down completely. The golden age of independent news, blogs, forums, and specialized sites like Stack Overflow is over. Whether this is good or bad, only time will tell. Personally, I think we are now restricting all internet traffic to just a few Gen AI apps data.stackexchange.com/stackov

This result shows s the total number of Stack Overflow questions asked each month. THE SQL query is https://data.stackexchange.com/stackoverflow/query/1926661#graph:
```
SELECT
    DATEFROMPARTS(YEAR(CreationDate), MONTH(CreationDate), 1) AS [Month],
    COUNT(*) AS [Questions]
FROM Posts
WHERE
    PostTypeId = 1
GROUP BY
    DATEFROMPARTS(YEAR(CreationDate), MONTH(CreationDate), 1)
ORDER BY
    [Month] ASC
```

The graph shows the number of questions asked on StackOverflow over time, from the site's launch in 2009 until now, the start of 2026.
Initially there is a steady increase until 2014, when the number hits an all-time peak at over 200 000 questions. Then begins a slow decline. This might be correlated with StackOverflow's change of moderator policies at the time.
In early 2020 there is a sudden steep increase, which coincides with the start of the Covid-lockdown, but shortly afterwards the decline continues, faster than before. This might be related to the fact that in mid-2021, StackOverflow was sold to a private equity investor.
In late-2022 begins a very steep decline, which is when ChatGPT (and Google AI summary later on) came out. Since then the decline has continued and today the number of questions asked is almost 0. (Thanks https://mastodon.social/@lethe@digitalcourage.social for additional alt text)

> **Yami Odymel:**
> ああ、うちの犬が亡くなってしまった :(
> 🎉 1 · 🥳 3 · 🤣 1

しかし、この文脈では「ポジティブ」な絵文字は、決してポジティブな意味を持っていません。

次に 😡 を考えてみてください。一般的には **ネガティブ** と分類される絵文字です。

> **Yami Odymel:**
> 嫌いな人がまた何か悪いことをした ><
> 😡 2

この場合、「ネガティブ」な絵文字は、コンテンツそのものへの否定ではなく、投稿者の感情への共感や、話題となっている対象への嫌悪を表している可能性があります。

このようなケースについて、どのように扱うべきか、何か良い方法やご意見があれば教えていただけると嬉しいです。

<summary>Original Content (Translated from English)</summary>
I honestly find this issue interesting, because labeling things as Positive / Neutral / Negative is inherently subjective and changes depending on context.

For example, think about 🎉 — it’s normally considered **positive**.

> **Yami Odymel:**
> Oh no, my dog died :(
> 🎉 1 · 🥳 3 · 🤣 1

In this context, “positive” emojis are no longer positive at all.

Now think about 😡 — it’s usually considered **negative**.

> **Yami Odymel:**
> The person I hate just did something bad again ><
> 😡 2

Here, a “negative” emoji may be expressing alignment with the author’s feelings, or hatred toward the subject being discussed, rather than negativity toward the content itself.

I wonder if anyone has suggestions on how to handle these situations?

RE: mas.to/@carnage4life/115832534

The sleight of hand – or the fundamental flaw – of this observation, is that it took their team a year to understand the problem by actually building a thing. Once you deeply understand a problem, it's trivial to get the dumb code vomit machine to produce code.

But producing the code is not the hard part, and using the code vomit machine is not a great way to build a system you understand from scratch if you haven't already solved the problem.

So the shortcut is a mirage.

@dandean this is what I'm confused by.

Like, if you described something like this to me I could probably write something that "isn't perfect" in a few days; any really good engineer should be able to. (Also: never underestimate the cost of getting from rough draft to production.)

The key would be describing it in detail, and to do that you'd have to already know what you were going to write.

The year is a year of debate, trial and error, etc. The code is almost never the hard part.

You might not notice it in your peer group, when you are not their age, but my daughter showed me that many 20-30yr olds are switching to dumb phones, are cancelling their Facebook/tiktok/twitter accounts and are discovering libraries and printed books. As a conscious decision. Not all of them, but quite a lot and it's growing.

@zkatkat

"we spent a year deciding what to build, it took time and required interacting with the problem at hand. once complete, we handed the spec off to a third party contractor, who implemented it with ease.

as a result, i am thinking that outsourcing is the future of programming"
