What is Hackers' Pub?

Hackers' Pub is a place for software engineers to share their knowledge and experience with each other. It's also an ActivityPub-enabled social network, so you can follow your favorite hackers in the fediverse and get their latest posts in your feed.

I find it interesting that there's loads of people who made a core part of their identity campaigning against trans women being in women's spaces and how it impacts women, who have gone completely silent about Grok being used to undress and brutalise women.

The image shows an article from The Washington Post discussing concerns over AI-generated nonconsensual sexualized images of women and girls, including responses from the platform owner.A post where people use Grok to undress a woman. A series of tweets asking Grok for an illustration, focusing on elements like revealing clothing and adding bruises and open sores to brutalise women. The image shows a series of Twitter replies that contain inappropriate comments about a woman's clothing, specifically regarding her hijab. The comments suggest removing the hijab and altering her appearance via Grok.

This week we gave another sneak peek at our “Point-Free Way” AI skills by showing it could properly design a new database table for associating an asset to a player, and create the proper database migration. It even took care of many important, nuanced details for us!

"My public safety team is working to gather information on an ICE related shooting this morning" near Portland Avenue and 34th Street in Minneapolis, says Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
"We will share information as we learn more. In the meantime, I ask folks to remain calm."

This makes the rounds now and then and there's always something in it that's kind of surprising. Voltaire might have met Blackbeard. There was a window there where Kierkegaard could have shaken some sense into Edgar Allan Poe. Catherine The Great and Ivan The Terrible could have had kids who were only OK.

i guess i could define acceptance criteria and then have a benchmark agent try different versions in a consistent harness with an inner agent multiple times and grade outcomes. is that the way to not go mad? waiting manually for the dice roll and trying to guess if this time it worked better sucks

or maybe the outer shell needs to be an actual program and it should shell out to claude only for the meat of the loop. or should the inner thing be a program? or should a program be packed into the skill? i know there’s no one right answer but im a bit at loss at how to even evaluate progress

i was thinking maybe i need to break it down into stages and make each stage more mechanical so that it doesn’t “think” about higher-level purpose. like first find all commits and put them in a file, only later we’ll be digesting them one by one, etc or maybe i need to give it tools or?…

but in practice claude often decides to stop early despite explicitly instructions not to do that, or fails to connecting narratives, or whatever and i don’t understand what levers i should be using. should my writing be more convincing? more low-level? more higher-level? more decomposed?

my skill’s “algorithm” is something like: search commits for themes, for each interesting commit add TODO, for each TODO look for adjacent commits and spawn more TODOs, then form a narrative connecting each TODO into the graph

I really LOVE this ! It's so interesting!

"Deep beneath our feet, churning molten metals create an invisible shield that holds our atmosphere in place and protects all life from the Sun.

Some animals can sense it directly. Take the quantum effects in a robin’s eye, whales who cross oceans using no landmarks at all, or the bacteria that line themselves up to this unseen force.

Join Professor Hannah Fry and Michael Stevens as they explore magnetism and ponder how a compass knows where to point?

Where the original source our magnetic field came from? What that field might feel like? And why magnets just be the most familiar mystery on Earth."

📦 urllib3 2.6.3 is now available!

This release continues our recent series of decompression-related security fixes by mitigating decompression bombs in HTTP redirect responses (see GHSA-38jv-5279-wg99).

Also, the new version avoids indefinite sleeps with big Retry-After values and improves compatibility with popular dependents in Emscripten environments.

담요처럼 쓸 수 있는 얇은 카본매트를 침대에서 쓰니까 몸이 녹아내린다.. 침대에서 바닥난방같은 따스함을 느낄 수 있는거였구나

Do you see how rights and freedoms are removed from the people in the name of supposedly protecting the children,

But when actual child abuse happened from the powerful, whether literally or by proxy in the form of AI algorithms on popular commercial platforms, the same actors demanding child protections are completely silent?

1- Chat Control and Age Verification isn't about protecting the children, it's about surveilling and controlling us.

2- As long as the abuse is perpetrated in the name of "AI" or corporate profits, no laws or protections seem to apply anymore.

This should make everyone extremely angry, and should be enough to make everyone with a moral compass delete their account on X immediately.
