Before hearing the news, Ellison said he was still trying to reverse the govt’s course.

“I’m still trying to say: Wait a minute, don’t do this stupid thing! Do not go forward with an exclusive, which would be an inherently untrustworthy investigation. Do what is right, do what is wise, do what is best for this country, & have an inclusive joint investigation that includes cooperation by state & local authorities,” he said.

He said the informed the later Wednesday that the ’s office had changed the plan.

“The investigation would now be led solely by the FBI, & the BCA would no longer have access to the case materials, scene evidence or investigative interviews necessary to complete a thorough & independent investigation,” Evans wrote.

@inthehandsPaul Cantrell im assuming some of the negative comments are inauthentic, or from the dangerously stupid, but the only reason this incident happened at all is because the volunteer resistance effort, the only reason there are multiple videos are from other volunteers, this whole incident is a sign of serious resistance, not just showy protests that the authorities ignore

Not sure whether locals still refer to this location as 'Byer Bank', but that's what it was called back in the 19th century.
Across the road from the Copt Hill public house, visitors making their way to the nearby Bronze Age barrow historic landmark will probably recognise the location.
I had no idea it had a name, but an OS map dated 1896 has it marked as 'Byer Bank', although bank then, it wasn't used as a path/bridleway.
If you were standing here back then, you would be on the route of the Hetton Colliery Railway, a route that brought coal from the collieries at Elemore and Hetton, all the way up to Warden Law before gradually descending all the way down to the coals drops on the River Wear.
In fact, at one point, this looks to have been where two separate rail lines came together, the other one being the Rainton & Seaham Railway, coming in from the right.

The sun setting on a cold December evening as viewed from a bridleway/footpath above Houghton-le-Spring, Sunderland in NE England. Historically, back in the 19th century, this was a railway line, part of a vast network of lines that conveyed coal from the collieries across the Durham coalfield to the drops on the River Wear.

Bits about Money is back today with everyone's favorite bit of consumer protection, Regulation E, newly controversial in the last few years because it started costing banks money directly in addition to the existing private court system it effectively mandates.

Warning for folks in Minneapolis / St. Paul out there active in the community today:

Neighbors have flagged this person as a right-wing agitator, spouting racist and violent BS, out harassing people and cruising for conflict. Eyes out, be aware.

I don't have any further info on their identity, sorry.

I think it's weird that 'lockfile' seems to have changed meanings, from "a transient file that exists as a half-assed mutex implementation" to "a snapshot of the extremely specific library versions your code worked with"

We recently reflected on our work in 2025—the achievements and the road ahead. That reflection reaffirmed our purpose and sharpened our priorities in this age of AI. In 2026, we’ll continue to work in service of our three strategic goals:

🌐 Strengthen the open infrastructure of sharing
🏛 Defend and advocate for a thriving creative commons
🌏 Center community

Read our newest blog post for more info on how we're working toward these goals in 2026: creativecommons.org/2026/01/08
