I finally finished Peterson's superb 2 volume "Playing at the World"

(It was a challenge because each footnote would suggest other books I ended up reading...)

When I started reading about the creation of D&D I assumed that the key idea was the invention of the RPG and once invented it would just spread like wildfire. This is only partly true because Peterson talks a lot about role-playing-ish games that existed at about the same time, in the US, UK and Germany, but which didn't catch on: Western Gunfight, Hyboria, Armageddon, Midgard I & II as well as adjacent things like SCA and Coventry.

There are a couple of reasons why D&D took off. One was probably that it was fantasy based and there was a receptive audience primed by a first wave of Tolkien-mania.

But there's another one that I want to rephrase differently from Peterson...

중국분들은 자기네 언어로 언어모델 쓰는것이 생각외로 잘안되는것 같긴함 난 언어모델에게 일시킬때 요샌 한글/한국어로 하는데 그거 보고 신기하게 보던데... 한국어는 아마도 일어와 어순도 같고 겹치는것이 많아서 잘 돌아가는데 다른나라 언어들은 그렇지 않은 모양임

How do y’all organize your or workflow?

Are you a desktop environment user that treats it as a turnkey environment for all your needs and don’t tweak it much?

Do you just use the tty and terminal programs really leveraging the power of the unix-y shell?

Or do you play in the middle ground somewhere and use a tiling wm like me?

For me, I treat my install like a unix-y flavored lisp machine. I don’t need much gui integration that much outside of the terminal, my wm’s lisp process socket and emacs, to be happy.

미국은 사실 남미쪽에 직접 침략을 안했어도 기업이 가서 개판쳐놓은 경우가 엄청나게 많음 해당 국가가 반발해서 미국 기업의 이익을 침해하려고 할때 그때 정부가 (아마도 기업 로비에 밀려서 마지못해) 나서서 두들겨 패준것이고 ... 베네수엘라처럼 대놓고 두들겨패냐 아니면 다른 방법을 통해서 소프트하게 두들겨패냐 이런 문제 같긴함;; 매번 그러함 이게 항상 큰 맥락인듯;

PSA: I have enabled auto-deletion of my posts. Genuinely surprised why I didn’t when I made this account, it is my favourite feature of Mastodon and usually I activate it immediately 😅 apologies if I’m breaking past conversations. But I love the feature for 2 reasons: firstly, it helps limiting my digital footprint, secondly, it makes my “weight” on this server smaller and thus help with resources utilisation; and as a sysadmin myself, I like cleaning up past content 😎

感觉在 arch 用 trunk 有点糟，看到了 fep-ae97-web-client 项目想尝试一下结果先卡在 trunk 奇怪的报错，说 couldn't find application wasm-bindgen (version: 0.2.104), unable to download in offline mode，用 cargo install wasm-bindgen 会安装最新版本，还得指定版本才能用。

不过安装指定版本的 wasm-bindgen 后又有个警告 `warning: the following packages contain code that will be rejected by a future version of Rust: buf_redux v0.8.4, multipart v0.18.0`，这种依赖警告好像编译 fep-ae97-client 也能见到，不知道是最新的 rust 改了什么。
