You notice how thousands and thousands of cops aren't coming out to condemn Jonathan Ross for senselessly killing Renee Good? This is what people mean by "all cops are bastards". If this were any other profession, the entire group would condemn it. With cops it's the reverse, they all justify it.

의안원문 올라옴. 일단 정의에 성 정체성도 포함되어 있습니다. 인종, 국적, 민족, 성 정체성, 성적 지향, 종교 모두 범위에 포함되어 있구요. 성별의 정의도 남녀에만 국한되지 않고 "그 외의 분류할 수 없는 성"도 명확히 포함시켰습니다. 소수 우대 정책(affirmative action)은 허용하는 예외조항도 두어서 차금법이 악용되는 사례도 막았군요. 다만 법 이름이 법 이름("양성"평등기본법)이라서 그런지 차별시정정책위원회 구성 항목에 양성평등 문구가 보이는 건 살짝 아쉬운 편 ("양성평등"에 관한 전문지식).

standards are great!

my toilet had a leaky gasket and I was ordering the part to be delivered, and my local hardware store had it in two standard sizes, 2" and 3".

I was uninterested in taking apart my toilet again to measure it, and I needed to make up a minimum order amount anyway, so I just bought both sizes!

anyway my toilet is a 3rd size unknown to man or god, because fuck you and fuck your standards

I hereby coin the term "Ptolemaic Code" to refer to software that appears functional but is based on a fundamentally incorrect model of the problem domain. As more code is generated by AI, the prevalence of such code is likely to increase.

Hah, this tiny resize target on MacOS & Windows makes my blood-pressure go in unpleasant directions.

I love how my Xorg+fluxbox (or cwm on OpenBSD) based systems let me hold down the Logo/Mod4/Windows key and right-click-drag from *anywhere within the window* (or left-click-drag to move the window rather than resize). Itty-bitty target vs huge-whole-window-sized target? Yeah, I know which one I prefer.

Ik realiseerde me net tijdens het wandelen dat ik, als ik volledig word afgekeurd, nooit meer door HR opzij zal worden genomen omdat ik als De Communicatieve (ze bedoelen de vrouw, maar dat mag je niet zeggen) de collega die mij het leven zuur maakt kan tolereren en het heel goed voor Het Team zou zijn als ik hem/haar kan Helpen (ze bedoelen opvoeden) om te leren dat andere mensen ook gevoelens hebben (mijn gevoelens tellen niet ntl).

En nu ben ik ineens heel vrolijk.

Has anyone put out a guide for effectively *attending* an online conference?

I have seen a lot of guides for giving an online conference, and a lot of complaints about attending an online conference, and it strikes me that a guide for attending might be useful. I'd ideally like to see things like: How to make the most of it, how to "trick" yourself into getting into a different headspace (travel usually accomplishes this for me), tips for networking, etc.
