I dyed my daughter's hair red yesterday, so I've been calling her and her brother Pinky and the Brain. Neither got the joke.

So I put some Pinky and the Brain on yesterday, the first thing my daughter asks me?

"Is this a show that was on TV when you were alive?"

Wisdom of crowds, edition:

I'm using Kubuntu, and have an interface mystery:

occasionally my interface zooms out and shows me a dashboard of all the open windows. But I cannot detect what I did to get that! My hand's always on the mouse when it happens, but I'm not aware of making any gesture or click! (Pretty sure my OS isn't telepathic … yet).

Q: how do I make this happen, intentionally? Or: what might this feature/action be called, so I can search for an answer?

Thanks 🙂

Some web APIs don't need all browsers to support them for you to use them as a dev. I don't think FedCM not being in Safari or Firefox right now is a deal breaker for Bluesky or Mastodon. You don't even need to fully commit to the tech (Google doesn't even use every feature at the moment).

Minnesota is really putting the facts of the 'opposition' party on show.

Walz says "I'm gonna deploy the National Guard," but actually deployed the state troopers to protect the Gestapo.

Now Frey's up on stage saying that MPD is just too busy protecting the economy to deal with crimes against humanity, so all protesters should go home. Because MPD won't protect them.

This is not opposition; it's collaboration and gaslighting.

Better watch out next time you use WiFi on a plane. Because it's broadcasted unencrypted across the area of an entire continent via a satellite link. And it can be received using of the shelf TV satellite dishes.

Good part is: private connections are mostly encrypted due to stuff like Let's Encrypt.

Bad part: critical infrastructure doesn't use Let's Encrypt.

Did You Know... we have a lot of stuff?

sometimes, we get things that are broken or un-usable. sometimes things break and are not fixable or not worth fixing.

those things go into the e-waste pile of doom, from whence they are eventually taken to the Colorado Hard to Recycle Materials Facility.

howEVER, this time around we decided to add another step in that process. we'll be doing a "Take Our Stuff, Please!" free rummage on the porch on January 31 from 2-4 PM.

everything from letterpress type to broken circuit boards to partially scavenged computer towers to textbooks from the 80s - all free, for whatever use you might have for it...

save the date! bring your own bag or box! take whatever you want!

So, I see Wikipedia has bowed to the slop-peddlers protection racket. "Let us violate your consent and steal from you, or else we'll DDOS your site with scrapers forever."

And now a towering human achievement is irretrievably tainted by collusion with the slopbros.

"AI" is a grift, a consent-violation machine, a protection racket all rolled into one. It destroys everything it touches.

Do you know any new open source projects that deserve recognition?

Projects that are:
- Solving real world problems and driving technical innovation
- Improving science, research or medicine
- Challenging long standing platforms or paradigms
- Just super nerdy and doing something novel!

If you do, please share them and perhaps we can help them get the attention they deserve. 🧡
