An important PSA for people who are active on and who, upon hearing that the ICE account was officially verified, are saying: "I will just block it."

Blocking on Bluesky is NOT PRIVATE: it's very easy to see who is blocking any account by visiting sites that list that information.

I took a screenshot from clearsky.app, listing all the accounts that are blocking ICE (I pixelated avatars and usernames for privacy purposes).

The safest bet is to mute (that info is private) ๐Ÿ˜ซ

a screenshot of the site ClearSky updating in real time the Bluesky accounts that are blocking ICE. The page reads "U.S. immigration and customs enforcement" blocked by 72233 (accounts) with the date of the block... some seconds ago

curl, which is one of the most popular CLI/API tools for network requests and data transfer on Linux/Unix, is to discontinue its HackerOne bug bounty program due to "too strong incentives to find and make up 'problems' in bad faith that cause overload and abuse".

The authors simply cannot keep up with LLM-generated fake security reports created to collect money using bots. So, it now shuts down at the end of January 2026. This is why we can't have good things

Dear Mastodon,

I am a mechanical engineer who is about to make a major change. I have received a job offer from an international company for an Application Engineer position. The role involves supporting (computer-aided design), (product lifecycle management), and (product data management) systems and their underlying infrastructure.

As far as I know, most of the applications are -based, but there are likely some -like systems involved as well. I do not have formal system administration experience, so I am looking for guidance on which technologies I should focus on to make this transition as smooth as possible. Could you recommend useful books, technologies, or keywords to explore?

For context, I have homelab-level experience with Linux, networking, SSL, reverse proxying, ZFS, Solaris zones, bhyve, and FreeBSD, and I have been using OpenBSD as my desktop operating system for years.

Thank you in advance for any or recommendations.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implementation, configuration, and maintenance of software and systems related to the supported area in line with corporate requirements.
- Installation, configuration, and maintenance of critical software systems, as well as providing expert-level support to end users.
- Management of application-related changes, handling major upgrades, and the introduction and testing of new systems and developments.
- Publishing and testing new releases.
- System administration and monitoring to ensure the performance and proper operation of supported software and systems.
- Troubleshooting and problem resolution, including the management of system updates and fixes.
- Analysis of business requirements and implementation of related processes.
- Support for project management, including the preparation of documentation and reports.
- Communication with clients and business units to maintain synergy between business requirements and system solutions.

I forked FreeBSD.

Not to compete. Not to build a distro. To break things.

ChaosBSD is a driver proving ground - a place for half-working hardware, reverse-engineered drivers, vendor trash, and speculative hacks that upstream can't (and shouldn't) accept.

amd64 only. Blobs allowed (marked). Panics expected.

The goal? Get drivers working, clean them up, upstream them, delete them from ChaosBSD.

Success == code deleted.

ChaosOS will keep it upstream sync but will have extra drivers, uncompleted, unstable.

I have build a bunch of drivers recently, either by porting or reverse engineering, but they are unstable.

Broadcom Wifi that reset after 18h ( probably forgot to add some hook), Bluetooh dongles from aliexpress that need exotic delays...

ChaosBSD is the place where we merge and work togheter, once the driver is civilized , we open a DIFF upstream.

This will avoid losing time and eventually burning out the maintainers.

Has anyone successfully used these FreeBSD Project-provided virtual machine disk images?

FreeBSD-14.3-RELEASE-arm64-aarch64-zfs.qcow2

FreeBSD-15.0-RELEASE-arm64-aarch64-zfs.qcow2

FreeBSD-16.0-CURRENT-arm64-aarch64-zfs-20260113-2b60e628d3b1-283055.qcow2

Not booting for me in QEMU. Respectively:

Mastodon is secretly sponsored by a cartel of cat food and cat toys manufacturers. Its main purpose is to get you to want a cat in your household so they can sell you more of their stuff. And it is working quite well, as far as I can see.

And that's why Mastodon/ActivityPub will always beat Bluesky and other services. Smart stuff. Really smart stuff ;)
