Ok I’m shopping for a desk appropriate DAC and speaker amp combo that doesn’t break the bank (<~700USD total). There are SO many spec options available I’m a bit stuck in analysis paralysis. Plus what I want to do might be a tough sell in any case so maybe I’ve backed myself into a corner.
Two digital inputs (two pcs, both support usb or toslink optical. One could maybe do ‘headless’ hdmi earc?), plus bluetooth (or usb?) from a mobile device.
Passive speakers (Micca RB42, so needs a bit of oomph to push). Nearfield desktop setup. Plus I’d like the option to switch to headphones. Less special but should be good enough.
On the DAC, It looks like maybe a balanced dac+headphone amp like the newer SMSL or FiiO or Topping? There are a few chip choices to look at? Then extra stuff like R2R, pffb and other electrics?
On the amp, class D (the TI one everyone likes?), I have a little less info here.
This is a topic that at first glance feels like a good AI agent would be ok at - pull in specs and objective measurement and subjective reviews and optimize. But this is not possible. There is far too much slop out there already and it just looks like (Gemini at least where I have some tokens) just gives up super fast.
Where do I go from here? Happy to get recommendations on components to optimize around, directions to start digging.

After successfully teaching to my youngest cousin how not to rely on streaming for her favorite music I want to try to teach her further computing skills to #OwnYourData trough #Minecraft.
Lately she and her friends are enjoying online Minecraft using Aternos to host games.
I'm thinking to install a Minecraft server for her on one of mine machines, I already did that in the past but this time I'll give her a non-root user account with full rights on Minecraft folders so she can autonomously manage her games. To make things easier I plan to not overwhelm her with theory and commands but setup all the basics for her (game server, backup cronjob, some handy aliases...), give her an easy to use shell with auto-completion and some GUI options too (like a SFTP client for file management) and then gradually teach her how to do stuff when she needs to (adding some theory as we go) for example:
- Wanna change server's name and motd from the default ones? Let's see how to locate configuration files and how to edit them
- A friend lost precious loot on a creeper accident and everyone agree on undoing that? Let's explore backups and how to restore them
- Need a particular mod? Time to introduce cURL/Wget
Okay, folks — I've updated to the #FreeBSD 15.0 on my #Thinkpad X220 
The process itself completed without any problems — I used freebsd-update as usual. After first reboot (kernel updated, userspace not updated) I met the strange blinking of display, while the second "freebsd-update install" was running in the text console. But after update was fully completed, this "problem" was gone.
After update, i915kms refused to load, system says that it is already loaded or compiled into the kernel. So, there are no graphical interface (possibly I should run "pkg update" or install drm-kmods from FreeBSD-kmods repository 
)
And there are no networking with iwm and Intel AC 8260 (possibly, it's time to finally switch to iwlwifi, lol)
